I know they closed in 1972. Anyone know when they were actually demolished?

Need to look it up in a book or books which are downstairs.

I'll respond tomorrow.

I predict this thread will run and drift for a while - good stuff! cool

I may be wrong and if so I'm sure somebody will put me right, but as far as I can remember only the outside of the baths were demolished. The pool is still there buried under pavement.

I can vaguely recall being in there once - remember walking down the stairs. I was only about 4 at the time.

I used to go to Aberdeen for my holidays and remember the baths. I remember as well the go-kart circuit at the shows but I was too wee to get on.

Where at the beach were the baths? They were knocked down way before I was born smile But it's quite interesting.

All I can find out is there were demolished soon after they closed because they were structurally unstable therefore I suppose that was 1972 as well. Saying that it was "The Council" that demolished it so it could have dragged on a few years LOL

I'm afraid not.

Plenty of references to the facility being "closed" in 1972 but none (so far) regarding when the structure was actually demolished (as Trev says above).

I've texted my brother and I'll ask my wife's mother when I see her next.

Can I ask why this is of interest to you?

Cheers,

Eric smile

A friend was wondering elsewhere. (I won't ask her why, she's completely bonkers so the answer may disturb)

I'm fairly certain that I can remember the building still being there in 1975.

Would the Press and Journal archive section be available for public research? They must have reported on an event like that!!
