Tweeking ECU's
Discussion
Fascinating debate internally in National comapny I work for regarding retuning ECU's
An initiative to reduce CO2 emissions from company vehicles will save millions each year.
The move to re-tune vehicle engines will reduce CO2 emissions by around 15,000 tonnes, and cut the company’s fuel bill by £3.5m a year
Can understand benefits of chipping but cannot understand if better emissions and performance why do manufacturers not do it?

Because the ecus have to cope with all the different types of fuels from all over the world. An initiative to reduce CO2 emissions from company vehicles will save millions each year.

This, different counties cars will have different maps depending on local laws too, I used to supply tuning parts for bmw's and minis and a lot of the parts were designed in Socal and we had to have our own versions made as the USA spec R56's all had MAF's fitted when the uk ones dont. But you re mapping a car for cleaner burn means leaning it out, which could in most cases vastly reduce engine life.
