Per my post on Airstrips etc, a few people suggested disused or unused industrial sites.

Plan would be:

Large area for stunds time trial or drag strip
Can be cordoned off so that RTA would not apply
Not close to residential area to avoid noise problems
Very Cheap or possible free
Safe
Central Scotland area.
Large safe parking area for 200+ cars not in demo area.

I have contacted one or two and been to see a couple.

Not having much luck so far!

Any suggestions welcomed.

Paul

Happy for all and any suggestions.

Not sure what it is now but there used to be a huge tarmacced area just as you go into Bathgate on the Whitburn Road from junction 4 of the M8.
Think it was used as car storage, maybe by AC, but always had, literally, hundreds of cars on it.

Thats now a large housing scheme called Wester Inch mate. SECC isnt a bad shout as I know the AECC have done car shows and drifting displays before but I bet its not cheap!

No, I don't mean the Wester Inch scheme which used to be Leyland Rover or whatever, on the actual road into Bathgate from Junction 4 off M8, through the big roundabout and on Whitburn Road next to Scot Waste I think?

But while since I have been there, not sure if it is still the same.

Edit, just checked on Google maps and it would look like Scot Waste have moved into this site as well.

What about Ramage Distribution warehouse in Glespin just off the M74. It has been unused for about 4 years and housed hundreds of lorries when the firm was in its heyday, and more importantly its only 2 miles from my house

forget about the secc as they charge megabucks, would probably be cheaper hiring knockhill. what about the old ICI plant at stevenston in ayrshire, now known as stevenston industrial estate, plenty of good condition tarmack roads inside the plant

My mates been looking for about 2 years to run experince days, seems to be nowt for free and also a lot of venues want a lot of insurance in place. So far the have found nothing suitable.

I think you will have trouble avoiding the RTA being applicable.
It is very likely that your 'private' venue would still be deemed to be a 'public place' in the eyes of the RTA.
If the 'event' was run under a permit from a recognised motorsport sanctioning body (i.e. the MSA) then the RTA is amended so long as the terms of the permit are being complied with.

It actually needs a special order of the Parliament to do that!

I have been in contact with a few agents managing sites. Predictably they wont 'rent' for that. I do sympathasise. Would you let your forecourt be wrecked or possibly wrecked? Or have big tyre marks all over it?

The ideal place would be one scheduled for being ripped up!

I am going to see two possible venues within the next week. I will keep looking for sites too. Golden rule is it MUST BE LEGAL! Otherwise the easy thing to do is simply turn up, cordon it off and just use it for a few hours, tidy up and leave.. Not my style though.

The area at stevenston might not be a bad shout
As the guy that runs it's a petrol head and is looking into putting a strip and track on the land, if it happens is a different story

But it's a fair old bit of land

This is surely a numpty suggestion, but going by the adage that there are no stupid questions and only stupid answers … Crail?

Is the Crail fatality not one of the reasons why Paul's wish may never be fulfilled?

As far as I know, the fatality at Crail merely encouraged them to change their safety rules to state that everybody must wear helmets and seatbelts.

hi

Crail charge about £3000 for a day. they have 28 days PA or would have to fit into one of their days and pay the admission charge and then the track charge so would be about £25 per car.

Not sure this is what I am looking for.

keep up the suggestions

This is proving a lot more difficult than I thought!

Not sure of what you're actally planning, but with the exception of 'free', isn't Knockhill everything you're after? Wouldn't it be easier to find some way of solving the cost issue at a 'proper' venue, rather than trying to make a less-than-decent venue work just because it was cheap? I'm always up for a track day (when the car is running frown), but no inclination to do standing starts or mess about on an airfield with a made-up circuit round cones and no marshalling. Whatever the agenda, is it not possible to double-up with one of the regular track sessions like SIDC or TrackScotland, or even KH's own track days?
