Anyone recommend a nice hotel, max 2 hours from Edinburgh?

An excellent rural location with great food, drink and romantic atmosphere is http://www.lake-hotel.com/
Not been here in a while but new owners appear to be doing a great job.

I do a lot of gigging around Scotland and would consider Dalhousie Castle a nice venue, Norton House and Ballathie House are also up there.
All have the country aspect and I have eaten in Dalhousie and Norton and can say the food was lovely, Dalhousie especially. Dalhousie and Norton have spa/pool facilities aswell.

Gleneagles, surely?
Agreed.Stayed there once - it's like a different world, not just the hotel but the also the grounds.
If its to say "Thanks for putting up with the silly hours recently" then what about Stobo Castle @ Peebles?
She can have some pampering while there. And the drive can be good fun if you don't get stuck behind a tractor.
Alternatively, you can't go wrong with Cameron House Hotel at Loch Lomond.
If you're feeling flash, drive to (near) the Glasgow Science Centre and get the seaplane up to Loch Lomond.
If you're foodies, stay up at the Fairmont St Andrews Bay Hotel and book a meal at the Peat Inn (not far from Cupar).
Or, as noted in other posts, Gleneagles. It might be cliched, but its certainly earned that right.
Have a great time, whatever you choose.
