It's date night with Mrs Kiwi, and we are heading to Glasgow this Friday night bounce

First choice is the merchant city, but other suggestions welcome. Somewhere nice for dinner (good food, good decor, and a little bit fancy would be ideal), and somewhere for decent drinks before and after. Helpful ideas much appreciated smile

two fat ladies at the buttery is great for food, old world atmosphere and decor, not cheap but excellent and you can have a drink at the bar before/after there too smile

Was at 2 fat ladies last week. Can't fault it but pre or post drinks will involve a walk.

It's in the arse end of nowhere.

Esca, Chisholm Street - good food and only a stones throw from Merchant City.

Fantastic steaks in the heart of the west end and good bars close by for a drink afterwards

Some good stuff already.
Also worth looking at are Cafe Andaluz in Crosswell Lane (West End) and Mother India Cafe opposite the Kelvingrove.
Both very handy for Byres Road etc.

La Lanterna on Hope Street. Love this place, might not look like much from the outside but the food is ace! Google some reviews.

Loads of ideas for the west end, but we have been to a lot of them. Never been to 2fatladies, as I had always thought it was mainly fish? (which isn't for me).

Hoping to try the Merchant City instead. Any opinions on Guys Restaurant, Citation, Browns, Boudoir wine bar? Been to Sapporo, which is fun, but I'm want to find something a littler bit more 'adult evening'.

Checked out 2 fat ladies website, and it looks good. Will see in the morning if there is a table available, although we might be lucky to get one Friday 8.30pm. Drinks plan is still town/ merchant city.

The Chip is good, Browns is a bit predictable, you can book Jamies now.

I'll second this one - and very reasonably priced too. It's sister restaurant in Ingram Street is Ingram Wynd with attached beer garden plus downstairs bar is simply wonderful. Flawless even. Cafe Gandolfi too is a good Merchant City stalwart.

Otherwise try Celinos in Alexandra Parade - a bit off the beaten track but lovely food at very reasonable prices. Also Red Onion in West Campbell Street was very good but long time since I was last there - owned by John Quigley.

The Corinthian is lovely, and the food great! Reasonably priced too, and it's a great bar/club for the rest of the night.

There is a nice bar in the Blysthwood hotel just accros the road. If is a nice cocktail and good atmosphere is ideal.

a few bars on bath stret too which are good value. Look down into the basements to find them!

^^ Red Onion is good yes. A bit more into town though I suppose.
