I just wanted to let people know that there was an attempted theft of my Cavalier Turbo 4x4 last night which was unsuccessful for the person trying to do it. This happened in Aberdeen.

The police are now handling the case but if anyone has any information please let me know asap.

They only managed to take the stereo in the end which I couldn't care less about although there is body work damage to the car during their break in plus they smashed up the interior to get to the ignition barrel, lucky the cars alarm system prevents any hot wiring and tampering.

Ahhh crap, terrible news for you and that lovely example.

Maybe in relation to the other thread about thefts, but those seem to be of high end newish cars.

It is a real pain in the ass and now I have a repair bill to try and get sorted out.

I think with my car it is the type of vehicle it is, i.e. a Cavalier Turbo 4x4 its like seeing a Sierra Cosworth sitting. The police believe it was just someone walking by but I think this was planned just by the way it was done. Either way my paranoia is now sky high and I am investigating better security devices. (Id welcome any suggestions on that front)

After reading about the other theft i have bought t a cheap Chinese car tracker from E-bay. No subscription fees and at 30 quid worth a punt will report back when it arrives and i can trail it a bit and see if it will be any good.

Just a thought OP, I know you're trying to get info by posting up where it happened but by posting a very precise location you might attract some lowlife who might think it amusing to come after your car again - seems to be a lot of them about.

I've got one of those old metal steering wheel locks too, would make them think twice!

Maybe try some form of visual deterrent. I have a stoplock steering wheel lock that I use if the car is ever parked up somewhere other than home. Admittedly they are cumbersome things but if it makes Neddy McTwoccer think twice, then it’s worth it.

I went to college with a reformed car theif. Quite worrying really when we were working with cars. I had a thatcham approved steering lock on my car. He told me it was pointless and proceded to demonstate by removing it without the key in less than 2 seconds.
If somebody really wants your car they will have it no matter what you have on it.

Makes me quite paranoid about my car actually. Hope the damage isn't too bad and you get it sorted fairly easily smile

Bit of a jovial story, but it proves a point. Years ago ,in Africa, it became the habit of the locals to take out the rear window ,as most folks had fitted a door opening alarm .Bright boy saw something wrapped in a towel on rear of an old mini, and took out rear window, and got in to find himself in the jaws of a small crocodile, which owner was taking to game reserve. He'd popped into bank. Police removed the offending alarm system and charged him. Problem is that in liberal UK,the warden would have been charged with carrying a dangerous animal ,and the warden sued , and the thief given a holiday somewhere abroad, where he'd not bother to use his return ticket, but find an illegal job.

There is a lot of talk of thefts in Aberdeen at the moment, you always read about this stuff and think "god I hope they never try and steal my car" but at the end of the day you know it could easily happen at any given moment. I had my other car parked right next to my Turbo and that never got touched and its obviously a lot newer but that is also the reason why. Old ignition systems eh? They think older cars are easier to steal and in many cases I am sure they are, if it wasn't for the alarm system my car would have been gone so I am thankful for that. So if you don't have don't have an alarm GET ONE! Stop these minks in their tracks.

Thanks for the replies though everyone I will let you know if the police turn over any information regarding this that could be of use to someone.
