I don't know why but I've been wanting to see a Nissan Leaf up close and get photos of it, but the only ones I've seen are 1 in Edinburgh and 2 or 3 in Dundee, but they all seem to belong to the council. At the council building at Strathmartine Road/Clepington Road junction I've seen 4 Mitsubishi i-MIEV's and 2 Nissan Leaf's in council stickers being charged at the charging portals. So are they only available to the councils for hire or whatever or are they also available to the general public? I also ask that because I haven't even seen any Leaf's at Nissan showrooms

Are we allowed to discuss the Nissan Leaf on Pistonheads, it doesn't have any pistons...

Full electric-powered cars are the beginning of the end of enjoyable motoring as far as I'm concerned.

No, but I'd bend the rules for rotary engines smile

For me a big part of motoring enjoyment is the noise a beautiful car makes, both engine and exhaust note, electric cars obviously can't provide that.

I know the Nissan Leaf is a shopping/family car, but I'd take any petrol engined equivalent over it given the choice!

sorry OP, not really helping you here am I!

I work for a Non Departmental Public Body (NDPB) and we have a Nissan Leaf as a 'pool' car - I was quite impressed with it initially until I found out that new it would cost £30K+ and it has a range of only ~110 miles (and to be honest in my experience that seems very optimistic). As a 'shopping trolley' or a run about for short local trips it is great but the purchase cost, lack of charging facilities and battery replacement costs (apparently ~£7K after 5-7 years) it is little wonder you don't see many of them. Agreed that the running costs are low, it only costs ~£1.50 to fully charge apparently but then that does take 12 hours - even a 'fast' charge takes an hour and that only gets the batteries to 80% of capacity...

I can't see Nissan selling many to 'Joe Public' it is only governmental bodies that can afford them and I believe that is only because they are getting a substantial 'grant' from central government against the purchase cost...

£30k? For what is (dimensions wise) between the Note and the Pixo? I guess that kinda makes sense.

When we picked up my stepdads new car from Nissan, we ended up chatting about the Note, me and the Nissan guy, he said they will be few and far between up in Scotland because everything is that much further away, so it makes life harder in regards to charging as there are less high speed charging points up here.

There's a light blue one I often see near Hermiston Gait, with a car bra on it. Haven't seen one apart from that!

I have now seen a handful of Leafs (Leaves?) in Aberdeen - they seem to be catching on.
