Hi folks , re the classic car show at The museum of country life in EK - did anyone go ? : as I live nearby in Bothwell I though I'd pop along with the family ...... My wife and daughter wernt fussed , my son was lukewarm but I made a good case - until our arrival .......25 quid admission for the 4 of us ! Now I'm not a tight arse but c'mon surely this is far too hefty ? Now I'm fanatical about all things automotive however as the family wernt too bothered we about turned and went elsewhere .

Any comments?

They wouldn't need to charge so much if more people were made aware of it!!

A lot of these things do seem to lack any decent form of value for money, even when avid car enthusiasm is taken into account. Classic car show in Bridge of Allan (no affiliation) on the 20th May is only £4 and kids for free. I think that's about the max I'd pay for a (sometimes too short) walk in a field!

My mate usually puts his Corvette in this show, he lives in EK, i used to pop up but the cost of entry was getting silly for a mediocre show.

7.50 to get in per person, heard about it on 350z website, nearly went then relised how small the carpark looks from the road so i gave it a miss, far too much money for a poor show.

I turned up after lunch and wasn't asked to pay... maybe it's because I arrived later in the day?

Anyway, I contributed to the show the expensive burger van by buying a cheeseburger and a can of coke!

Nice day for it with a good selection of cars.

Given it was a local show held in a council car park £3 admission would have been far more like it - I've been to many 'classic' car shows and while many are stunning examples there are just as many where the term 'classic' is being a tad economical with the truth !

Sorry, I thought you said that you didn't go in. Maybe if you had you would be able to comment capably on the show.

The National Museum of Rural Life is in no way affiliated to the Council; nor is it a show in a council car park. It is one of the finest museums in Scotland if not the UK. If you wish to exhibit your classic entry is free, and furthermore, the museum gives you a £5 lunch voucher for the excellent cafe!

I was there with the SEC, and it was a great day. No rain and the busiest show yet, and plenty of interesting cars of all types: including the Porsche owner's club, Jaguar driver's club, MG, Triumph, Rovers, etc, etc! The intention of the museum is to develop the show each year and add more attractions. By turning away at the door you do nothing to support them and miss a good day out. So do your children, because the place caters in many ways for them, with a working farm, tractor rides, a huge playroom and an outdoor adventure park. The entry fee gets you into everything, not just the car show.

Think about it for next year, instead of being Mr.Grumpy.

This from the man who lists a 911 Turbo, Mercedes S Class and a Bentley Arnage in his Garage. Sorry to break it to you but you are a tight arse.

I think that comment is unnecessary and the organisers need to take comments like these on-board. To put it in perspective its 50p less than Thirlestane and only a couple of quid short of a full days racing at Knockhill.

Just to put things into perspective …

Entry to the Museum of Rural Life is usually £6.50.

On the day of the Classic Car show, entry rises by A WHOLE POUND to £7.50, for which you get to look around a reasonably-sized car show as well as the museum and farm. This is because they need to put on far more staff than usual for longer hours than they are normally open. It’s always the museum’s busiest day of the year.

As mentioned by jith, if you exhibit on the day then you pay nothing and get a £5 lunch voucher and free entry to the museum and farm thrown in. Exhibing spaces book up pretty far in advance though, it seems to be a popular show.

We'll agree to differ ..............25 quid for a local regional car show just seemed excessive ( large national show maybe - not local ).

I think what you have here is paying to get into the museum and grounds as you would normally do, and paying an extra £1 to see the cars. So in that respect, and as a marketing tool for the museum, it seems to be a good idea.

Whether it would be possible to have an admission price just for the car show alone is another question though.

we were there with the green mk3 cortina pick up what most people didnt know and some did was to park in the street accross the road and just walk in.

i think also prices were to high especially few were walking in and not paying so unfair for others

Aha! Cheers. It’s one show I couldn’t miss, what with my better half working there. I even waxed the car, which you know is quite unlike me!
(I’ve not clocked any pictures from the day yet—where’d you find some?)

It just occurred to me that it would be a good idea at these shows for anyone on here to identify themselves to others. I don't mean wearing a carnation in your lapel and carrying a copy of the Times! But how about something on your windscreen to say you are a PHr at a show?

There’s already a PH smiley sticker in my windscreen. Simple enough.
