Having a bit of trouble with my Insurance Company,

Premium has become daft for my elise, so I've started to shop around for a better deal. Direct line are offering a price almost £400 less than anyone else, however they insist that a tracker is fitted to "this type of car". Considering the saving is almost certainly more than the cost of a tracker, I'm now looking to get one fitted.

Normally I would have just gone to Checkpoint on George Street, but since that’s now gone, I have no idea where to go!
I've done a few googles, but the nearest place seems to be Edinburgh or Glasgow. Anyone know somewhere around here who can fit such a thing?

Cheers
Steve

Don't know if this will help at all, but when I worked at John Clark BMW we often had to fit trackers for customers, and they were fitted by our techs in the workshop. Ask them, call and speak to Vicky Maddison in service, she's a good lass.

Edit to add: Also, try Dick Fleming down at the arches, they do car kits and the like. They might be able to help?

John Clark is on 01224 335577 and DF is on 588844.

Another edit: Autosonic on 661777 will almost definitely do what you want.

Slightly off topic, but if it helps at all I've found adrian flux and competition car insurance have both given very good quotes for my elise, might be worth a try if you haven't already smile

You could always buy a tractor!

Have you called Tracker directly? They should be able to point you in the right direction.

I looked into this a few months ago when Trakbak decided they were no longer going to support my tracker. Refunded my subscription and offered to arrange fitment of a new one for around £500... Unsurprisingly, I told them to do one and went local to source one instead as a matter of principle. Only place I could find on my trawl was Autosonic off the Langstracht. A little over £400 fitted with a years sub if I recall. As it was I phoned the insurance company up and asked what effect not having a tracker made to my policy - the answer was £25 a year saving. So the result was my tracker was disconnected and never replaced...

Things have changed a bit from the nineties when you had a choice of fitters. I went into Dick Fleming and after a puzzling converstion realised they thought by 'tracker' I was looking to track my fleet drivers movements. Claimed not to have heard of insuranced approved trackers at all... odd.

Why did they decide they weren't going to support your device? Seems a strange decision, particularly when they take a subscription for effectively doing nothing, and then if the device is needed and doesn't work, they can claim it must have been tampered with?

Dick Fleming are normally pretty switched on. Ask to speak to Craig, he knows what he's talking about.

Claimed that the analogue radio network was obsolete and being switched off. The new tracker would be on a digital network. They claimed it wasn't cost effective to keep supporting the old system. Surprising as the hundreds / thousands of owners with trackers more than five years old would surely have paid plenty enough to maintain equipment that must have been paid off years ago... The cynic in me would suggest that leaps in OE security has reduced the requirements for aftermarket trackers and they saw the opportunity for a cash grab from their existing ownership. On those grounds I would go else where as a matter of principle.

Quite agree. They were one of the best names in aberdeen when I used to follow such things. So they were the first I tried when I needed the tracker. They seem to have gone more down the commercials route though?
