Looking for how to handle this?

bought ex-demo car from garage down south, car has done 14k miles, but noticed the other day two of the tyres have large bulges on the sidewall. Conacted Pirelli UK, who said they would suggest replacing (which I'd agree with), but wouldn't entertain it being a manufacturing fault. both tyres in question have about 5-6mm tread left - any advice on how to handle a warranty claim??

agree, unlikely to be a manufacturing fault, possibly kerbed. Only ever had the dot, as it was then, investigate supposed faulty balljoints, as claimed by garage, turned out they had incorrectly fitted them, which they admitted, but only after said parts were taken for analysis.

If you drove the car from 'darn saaaaff' then the garage will say that the tyres were ok when they left the garage. If it was delivered to you and you haven't driven it and can prove it, you should be able claim against the garage, otherwise you will have to stump up.

It's worth a call to the dealer you bought the car from, they might be sympathetic. You don't mention how many miles you have done in the car, if its quite a few the could just say that you have hit a couple of pot holes so its your fault and very difficult for you to prove otherwise.

I would try the dealer first and see where it gets you, if they say no then call them everyday till someone gets annoyed and says yes.

Sorry for the poor advice

Personnally, if some tyres have bulges , I'd be looking at getting them all checked/changed , and the steering /suspension geometry checked . Possibly looking for a main dealer to give the car a health check. Most do it free .

car had 9.5k on it, was ex-directors car at LR dealer. so we've done 4.5k since last oct.

whilst im no expert on tyres, its done look like the bonding between the layers somewhere in the sidewall has started to become unbonded - & it seems strange its on two tyres - bad batch?? also no kerbing both tyres and wheels have no physical contact damage. will try and take photos.

if we end up buying ourselves certain wont be £600 pirelli!

Dont want to be a doom monger but having done 4.5K miles since you got it my initial thought is I'd not hold out much hope from dealer

Two tyres the same sound like pothole damage or similar some time in past

Mind you with LR tyres I'd have thought they would be built to take it so maybe worth trying dealer as they know what "demonstrations" they did with it

Do they have one of those on site off road tracks?

Have a wee read in here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

That exactly what is happening - loads of causes but most likely miss use at some stage - I'd put my money on enthusiastic driving with low pressure at some stage in their life.

We need photo's, are the tyres low profile or off road or what? Are both tyres on the same axle or on the same side? There are too many unknowns for anyone to give any opinion.

Classic kerbing I'd say Just watch way some folk park against a kerb and you'll see similar bulge I'm surprise more are not like that

Definately ask garage what they did with car as demo

"record jumps on the turntable".

So you have found the bulges now but have done 4.5k since you bought it?

Tyres were fine 4.5k ago, if they had been seriously kerbed previously wouldn't the alloys be marked also? Must admit had few LRs over the years, given them some punishment but this is a new phenomena to me... I have led too sheltered past life!!

Not a thing on the inside - looks like two new tyres tomorrow then.
