Hi,

I've just moved to the Perth area and looking for a decent garage who can sort out my Audi A4 (2003) for its MOT. It needs a little bit of work, suspension knocking on the front and the airbag warning light is on.

I'm looking for a decent, honest and reliable garage who'll not rip me off or have some unsupervised yoof practicing "mechanics" on my car.

Grateful for any recomndations or even advice on where to avoid. I'm in Dunning so any Aucherarder/Bridge of Earn garages might also be an option - if anybody decent there?

Many thanks

A wee bit outside Perth, but Lamb and Gardner near Errol are good. (Shell garage half way between Perth & Dundee on A90)

Automobile Services were good to deal with - albeit many years ago.

Try Harbour Garage on Friarton Road, next door but one to the Harbour Master's office.

The Audi garage in Perth(Camerons) has been or is currently Audi dealer of the year. Never heard anything in 30 years against them.

Castleton Motors in Auchterarder have a good reputation. And I'd second the view on Camerons (Perth Audi) - that wouldn't be much cheapness, however!

Independent VW,SEAT,SKODA,AUDI garage behind Homebase.
Crichton Donaldson,ex foreman mechanic at Camerons',
He only does VAG vehicles and from my experience;top service and has to be half the price of main dealer.
He fitted an idler pulley to a diesel Bora for me to eliminate a slight noise...noise was still there so original pulley refitted and wouldn't take any payment for his time...that's what gets repeat business.

I have no experience of the ex Camerons guy but am happy to take the word of people who use him as Camerons would have given him a strong background.

My experience is that independents may offer half price labour rates but by the time you include parts at the same or slightly lower prices then total bills for larger items are not appreciably less. Routine servicing is better in that regard with an independent but depending on where you live, the pick up/loan car service that main dealers offer can be worth a lot.

I have also found that cars up to five years can still qualify for goodwill payments if things go wrong but I accept that for cars over, say, five years (as the OP is asking about) then an independent is the way to go.

Another point is that the independent will probably see more B6 A4s than a main dealer.

I would recommend Scott and John, here, http://www.garageservicesperth.co.uk/. Scott serviced my Subaru for years and knows his way round everything.
