Tricky time getting insurance
Discussion
I’ve had a hard time getting my car insured at a new address, because nobody out there wanted to insure on a classic policy if it’s being parked on the public street overnight.
Turns out that this is a hard combination of things for an insurance spec:
(Actually, Lancaster are up for insuring classics without garaging as well, but they’re not cheap.)
Ridiculously, the policy A-Plan got for me is from my current insurer—who flat out refused me cover when I originally called them direct to change my address etc. Go figure!

Direct insurers have a big book of set policies they only deviate from slightly with discretion from underwriters.
Through a broker they'll write any old s
t near enough. And they give better rates to the brokers too.
Crazy but it's the way of the world.
Standard cars though, big easy to write book, lots of cars, not so many claims proportionately.
Defo worth using a broker on a modded car.

Oh yeah. I’ve been using a broker for five years already. What confused me in the end was how come my existing broker couldn’t get me a deal, but the guys at A-Plan scored me a really reasonable price with the exact same underwriter!
It’s a shame because my old brokers were great guys, really helpful, etc.

Brokers gain and lose favour and even trading with insurance companies month on month, depending on how much business they place with them, internal politics etc etc.
They're all businesses out to make money, unfortunately not a service there for something we require by law.
Haven't told you what i'm doing for a living these days have i?
