Having recently went back into our company car scheme and taking delivery of a very boring but actually ok VW Passat Sport I unfortunately after 2 months got a puncture, fair enough, head down to my local (rip off) Kwik Fit to be told that it has special Continental tyres that have gel inside and therefore although the puncture was right in the middle and it still had 7mm left had to be replaced, thanks goodness its a company car or I would have been raging!!

Is it just me or are these new technologies run flats/ gell not just a way of forcing you in to buying new tyres! The chap in Kwik Fit actually told me that the gell is meant to slow down the air escaping and keep your tyre inflated longer, but as in his words "it's a lot of rubbish!"

Anyone else had to replace perfectly good tyres??

I did notice that VW had been fitting self sealing tyres such as ContiSeal as OEM fitment.
