Fee had her first shot at door to door racing.....

[quote]
Well for my first race outing I had an awesome time!
The car was totally misbehaving yesterday and I only got out on track for 10 minutes and was convinced it was going to die in the qualifying session!
Luckily, leaving it untouched overnight seemed to work magic and the car was fine today

Qualifying was wet and very slippy. I'm still trying to learn the limits of the car back on normal tyres and didn't push nearly as much as I should have / could have. Because of the rain we decided to take the slicks off in the morning and get the wets fitted as it looked like it was going to be a wet day.

On the first race I started 13th on the grid. Had a wee chat with Sandy Forrest beforehand and he mentioned (or maybe I just misunderstood him) to just start going once all the lights are on.....so I did! Doh! I was off and no one else was! So started trying to roll back and then everyone else was off! Worst start possibly ever! I have been creasing at the video of it!!!

The track was still quite slippy and I had a few excursions onto the grass/gravel but managed to keep it going.
I was behind Alex Bruce for most of the session and was determined to pass him, but went a bit too wide after the chicane and lost some ground.
Finished 10th overall and 2nd in my class.....woooo!

For the second race, I knew to wait for the lights to go off! My start was good and I managed to pull forward a bit. I approached Duffus and found Marco driving across the track! Managed to avoid him and carry on. Unfortunately the front facing camera had shut off by that point, so I only have a rear view of Marco off-roading!
I had a good few laps with the Seat behind me.... I was convinced that he was going to get passed me on so many occasions but by sheer luck I managed to keep ahead. The rear end of the car was wild coming out of the hairpin. On maybe lap 7 the tyres started to turn to jelly and flung me wide out of Macantyres (I think) and gave him the opportunity to get through.
Still....finished the race 2nd in my class again, and 7th overall smile

Tyres are definitely passed their prime
Brake pedal had a lot more travel in it when I got into the pits after the second race
Bodged catch can has sprayed oil all over my engine

But other than that, the car seems to be good

I am definitely too 'trackday trained' though and need to learn to push more aggressively on the corners

Thank you to Matty for all his help today, and to Marco for helping me out on Saturday.

In typical Fiona fashion, my vids are a bit crap (I've got front facing and rear facing from race one, but only rear facing for part of race 2) - will get them uploaded tonight/tomorrow

Not claiming to be a pro or anything, but some of the lines appear to be losing him a lot of time, like when he goes through Duffus and the hairpin.

edit: why did he appear to be pointing at mr ogange car?

well james was the 3rd fastest car in that race the fastest lap went to the orange car by .1 of a second and standard mini tactics, hes basicly telling the guy in the orange one to go so he can then pull in behind him so they can slipstream away from the guys behind/catch up to the guys in front but he had vic behind him so had to defend rather than slipstream.

didnt get any of the safety car frown

Oh well, shows what I know, good going to him. It just looked to me that he might of been losing time through some of the corners by taking them tight, obviously not. His reaction seemed like he was annoyed, that's all. Hence people's confusion.

If you think that videos confusing you should see an in car from Tim sleigh, you don't know if he's egging people on, waving or giving them the finger laugh

But it was him that explained it to me if you get behind someone who is as fast as you you give them the signal so they know you aren't going to attack them into the corner so you work together to catch the guys in front then once you do it's every man/woman for themselves.
