Hi

We're looking for somewhere nice for a long weekend in the north of Scotland. around the end of October.

Nice restaurants, beautiful views, beaches are the ideal things.....

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Jamie

Good call! >> http://www.Torridon.org

(The Torridon Hotel has just been voted 13th best in the world - also has an Inn if you want cheaper accommodation - but can still eat in the Hotel if you want posh nosh)

The Torridon is fantastic. Watch out though, a lot of places will be winding down for the winter.

Why is it that you all head west? I know it's nice to look at and that but there's an east side too you know.

Dornoch,Golspie and Brora all have great beaches and plenty nice places to stay. You could even head further north to Caithness if you dare hehe

Inver Lodge Hotel, Lochinver.

http://www.inverlodgehotel.co.uk/ Food is top notch, Chez Roux.

Just had a long weekend, great coast roads & driving although some of the back roads can be narrow.

Yep, just south of Fala, end of a long day's drive to York and back.

Yes if you stick to the A9 but there are good roads in there too, just not shouted about the same as the west.

I did a run round some of the west a couple of weeks ago with some old Fords and it was a good day out but i enjoyed the blast home over the struie as much as anything else that day.

Horses for courses and all that

I'm currently in Brora, and was in Dornoch yesterday, and they are nice places with decent beaches... But the scenery isn't a patch on the west, and it has LOTS more cars, I actually found a traffic jam yesterday!

ETA I just drove back, east coast to west coast through the rush hour, and in the last 50 miles or so, saw 4 cars and a bicycle. smile

I went from Bonar Bridge to Tongue on Friday of Easter weekend, at rush hour.

I saw 4 cars and one truck on the whole journey.

To OP, Tongue Hotel on the north coast in nice, decent beaches and roads in the area too.

Don't get me wrong, the scenery in the west is nice but where exactly in Brora were you?

If you head in land a bit the scenery is great there too.I was up for a couple of days last week to tidy up around the croft and it's too quiet for me now,was glad to get back to Inverness.

Well I certainly don't want to get into a 'west is bigger/better than east' contest, I'm sure the scenery is fine all over the Highlands (I've driven almost every road up here in the past 20 years), but if you found it too quiet on a croft anywhere near Brora, you'll be bored to death over here .. just about 1 person per square mile - and most of them are asleep most of the time wink

If you love it near Brora, I'm sure you'd also love Torridon. Pop over some time and check it out.

I'm not trying to get into a contest,i only asked where you were.I could maybe have pointed you in the right direction.
I grew up and still have family there but it's not the life for me anymore,i do feel that my son is missing out on a lot of things that i took for granted though.I'm not going to be able to teach him how to fire a 12 bore shotgun in the back garden for instance.hehe

I know what Torridon looks like too, been there often enough.I just don't find it that much different to anywhere else up here.
