I was thinking about it till my mate told me to go to his body shop and watch him remove a wrap from a car yikes it was pulling the paint off the car and it does not even look all that great to start with TBH better getting a re-spray every time.

Oh well it does not sound so good after all!! I have seen a lot of super cars wrapped on the forums so I thought it would have been fairly safe to remove since there doing it? I had my heart set on having my Monaro matte black but I guess that means I will have more money for modifications instead biggrin

much the same as mentioned below, the clear coat was ripped oiff on most panels, some light cut marks but not too many. one part of the car had a repair unknown to me, when we took the wrap off, it was down to the filler on that part, and luckily it was a small repair. but ANY paint repair will be subject to problems.

when you take into account a wrap, you should price it as the cost of the wrap, then a paint job on top. its cheaper, and the finish is way way better with paint.

oh, and i do this for a living too, and i will not do a customers car in a full wrap never have, never will.

We have used Totally Dynamics in Cumbernauld 4 times now and have done an excellent job every time.

Call Adam on 0871 702 9596, he should look after you and does a proffesional finish.

Wraps are fine if you have decent paint, don't blame the film or wrapper for somebody elses dodgy paint job, eg hidden reapirs, filler, poor keying etc, some commercial vehicles I've pulled paint off with masking tape, that's how badly they can be done.

I assume reputable firms that offer car wraps would offer a guarantee that would cover repair to any paintwork damaged upon removal of the wrap? I don't think I'd personally consider it otherwise TBH.

When I had a taxi some years ago, this sort of guarantee was offered when it was wrapped for advertising - that said, I had full wraps and sides added and removed without ever needing remedial paintwork.

I didn't think so, which I wouldn't get one as good resprays ain't cheap.

a wrap will set you back from 1200 to 1600, so a respray may not be far apart from that price.

and no matter how good the job, vinyl just doesnt shine deep like paint.

also, on my porsche in the first month i had a stone chip on the top of the wing, that will be another 100 quid please to rewrap the wing

Yes that is the weakness of wraps, very expensive, easily ruint, we combine wraps with paint protection but even then doesn't mean an unprotected part won't get hit, sods law as they say.

We have disclaimers for wrap and ppf films that if you have had repairs or a respray blah blah blah etc but the norm is we expect the paint to be fine at the end of it, for ppf, vehicle graphics and wrap films, it's a crucial part of their design.

I was wanting a wrap because the front of my car is covered in stone chips and I thought it would look even more evil in Matte grey or black!! I been speaking with Totally Dynamics and they are willing to do it for 1500 quid but I might go down and speak to him before hand. I was planning on having my roof wrapped in carbon because it needs painted after some bird eggs landed on it!! Then I just might get the front bumper and bonnet resprayed and leave it at that.

Thanks for the info guys smile

dont be under the idea that the wrap will hide the stone chips, they will still be visable, if not more so than before.

and if they have gone through the paint, then you know whats going to happen when you remove the wrap dont you ?

Yeah there is a few big ones on the bonnet and the have been sealed and they have not rusted. But I supose when I remove the wrap it will make them even bigger!! I get the idea just the roof then and that will not be removed!!

Dont get a carbon "Look" wrap. If not carbon at the end of the day.
I have seen some superb wraps......but you have to thing long term, when the wrap, if the wrap havs to be removed.

Also, you gotta tell the DVLA etc about colour change, not a biggie but you gotta do it.

Personally I would paint the car

apparently with a wrap, there is no need to tell the dvla, as its classed as a temp change. never made sense to me that, however you do have to tell your insurance, and when i was with the AA they would not insure the car with a wrap
