Best Scottish driving roads ?
Discussion
Heh, that had me fooled; it looks very similar! I don't really know the A890 - been round the A892 loop in both directions loads of times, so I know Achnasheen, but I've only been Lochcarron way a couple of times... I'll try and check it out next time I'm up there, though, as it looks good from those photos ![](http://www.pistonheads.com/include/images/smile.gif)

Actually - it's a really slow, boring road with no fast corners that you can apex (as you cannot see for miles), and it's also full of traffic, and has no decent straights, and there are junctions and roundabouts and traffic lights, and kids are ALWAYS playing in the middle of the road...
... e mail me and I'll give you the bad news.
Which is of course... that Knockhill will always be better (!)

I've just come back from Scotland, I did an extended version of the route on 'getcarters' website (cheers - top route). You fellas are seriously lucky to have these roads to play on.
As well as the 'getcarter' route I incorporated a route over the Cairngorms, fun but very different in charachter to the west coast routes. More of a bumpy hill route with blind crests and the very real possibility to become airborne if you went too fast, I settled for enjoying the scenery for this stretch.
The route from Inverness to Ullapool and the road down to the shores of little Loch Broom is the best driving experience I have had. The A road that comes off the road between Skye and Fort Augustus and deposits 10miles of so south of Fort Augustus was another gem of a road. Words don't do them justice, and now with the run over my Tuscan has never sounded better. No better way to run in a DB9.
Spotteds: Red Chim crossing the Forth Bridge, Titanium Chim near the 5 sisters and silver S series car just west of [Portee?]. Any of you fellas?

Hi Steve,
Sadly not me, I do have a blue TVR though - I was in the area last week (first few days). Still on a high now. I certainly would have waved back - I got quite a few waves whilst in Scotland - a fair few of the sports bikes flashed lights or gave a nod for a fellow motor enthusiast enjoying the roads.
I've done a series of mountain bike tours in the past but have never made it up into Wester Ross before. Truely breathtaking and varied scenery. I'll definately be back.
Cheers for posting the route to your website & sharing it with Pistonheads btw, must be a blast in a Turbo - a pal of mine had a 993 Turbo until recently and it would have been in its element.

Good to meet Shadytree up here yesterday in his 'oh so sexy' DB9.
Good news. The kids from the local village are not interested in my car anymore, they just want to know when the Aston is coming back - so thanks for a job well done!
Hope the trip back was free from chavs and scameras.

Just got back from the highlands myself. Not a driving holiday but I walked the Great Glen Way from Fort William to Inverness. Was joked about in the pub last Saturday night, went to work Sunday, Sunday night spent phoning round mates trying to get equipment, the left 6o'clock Monday morning. What stunning scenery and a beautiful area of the world up there!
Sorry to 'Getcarter' as I had said if I was up and around I would get in touch by email beforehand but it was so last minute most of my family didnt even know I was gone. Without a doubt I will be back and next time I will be taking the car... the roads I saw when up there were truely awesome and thats not even as far up as the route on your website I dont think.
I grabbed the parents point and shoot as I left the house so got some photos but the other camera was just too big to justify carrying. I might put a wee post up with some of the pictures and wee review as I would definitly recommend the walk as a great way of seeing that area of the world!
Within five minutes of each other I saw a Golden Eagle followed by an Audi RS6 giving it some beans along a tight twisty country road... the other walkers weren't too chuffed but the sound as it booted off round the corners was quite something after a day of nothing apart from the odd roar of low level jets!
