Don't plan anything for 5 weeks!
Discussion
Oh dear, my sympathies. As you say, could have been much worse (a mate with an Integrale got six months a few years back, although it was a slightly worse speeding misdemeanor...). Not that this'll make you feel any better though.
I do Leeds to Surrey every couple of weeks, mostly late night when the roads are clear. I generally stay under the ton but stretch the legs if I get similar conditions to when you got pinched. You've certainly given me a bit of a reality check & I'll be taking it easy in future.
On a positive note, I couldn't drive mine for a couple of months when I broke my leg in summer (only two months after buying the thing!). Having just started getting used to the speed I went through the whole process again when I started driving again (with cast!). I suspect after being deprived of it for 35 days, it's gonna feel pretty bloody special when you get back in it. It's a damned nice Cerb by the way - me & Andy were admiring it shortly before leaving.

And just think how good your car is going to feel after 5 weeks of not driving it
al
Truer words could not be said.
I have to drive a diesel Landcruiser for work and coming back to the cerb after 4 or 5 weeks is just sheer unadulterated joy
Think of it as a sabatical and in a few weeks when you fire her up to take her out on the first run it will be automotive heaven (save it for a special run though, not a trip to safeway.)

What would you have prefered; points and fine or the ban you got.
6 Points, or a shorter ban (2 weeks) would have been spot on.
But then again, according to "Law on the web" the maximum I could have got was £2500!!!
Also an instant ban of up to 56 days was up for grabs too!
They said I should expect a £325 fine, where as I only got £200, plus the court costs which I was going to get whatever.
Then again a friend of mine got 5 points and a £300 fine a couple of months ago for exactly the same offence.
Got to look on the bright side eh?
Many moons ago, I got banned for four weeks.
The one thing it taught me, was to be extra vigilant. I still do silly speeds (cough, on private roads) but have had no points for 16 years.
Oh god, just realised how old I am working that out.
Take a few weeks off work and do all the jobs on the car/house or go away for a holiday. It'll take the sting out of it.
