Hi all,

I keep hearing about virginia Waters down south and the M25 Cafe that PH's meet at for a casual get together.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a Yorkshire version. Probably at one of the Old houses e.g. Harewood. Other suggestions are welcome.

I have two kids and to be frank, they don't really like being dragged round on a tour of Yorkshire. It's nice if a meeting is stationary and can cater for kids (big and small).

It's a Piston Heads meeting rather than just one or two clubs. It's nice to put faces to login ID's. I know they have a Porche, Aston, Jag and vintage car show there most years. So they may be able to supply separate parking for the PH Cars, if the numbers are big enough.

It's not meant to be a formal gathering, just a collection of Car nut's having a gawp at all the nice cars. An ideal day would be Sunday afternoon 12pm onwards. Leaving the option of going for a drive later.

Chris - sounds very much like the Big Northern Gathering to me

Gemini will sorting out a date as soon as he stops dribbling over his new baby... no I don't mean Beth either

Alternatively, quite a few of us TVR nutt... er, drivers get together fairly regularly for a drive out to a pub in the country somewhere.

I mean as well as the BNG. We might actually make it to BNG this year, we where busy last year. That’s my point,it's still only one event a year! Hence if your busy on the day then that's it till next year. (Go no Gemini you know you want to organise another BNG!)

The pub is nice, we used to go when we had a TVR.
It's a small pub, no offence. You can't really get more than 20 - 30 cars in.
What are the kids going todo. Not all of us like kids running around knocking pints over and we can't get a babysitter

I think this is a fabulous idea. BNG is a once a year event, VW is whenever they feel like it. Harewood House is the perfect setting. We could set up on the grass in front of the house.

If it's VW for them it must be HH for us.

Motorcyclist in the York area will already know about Squire's cafe at Sheburn in Elmet. Harry, the owner told us he was going to make Tuesday night, car night. I'm not sure when this is going to start, but he does get a few cars there already on a Tuesday night.

If it involves nice cars, sunshine, food and drink count us in!

Harewood House is just 'round the corner so a drive before or after would be nice.

Another PHer is organising a villiage fete sometime in May/June. He was looking for a decent show of nice cars, perhaps this would be something the kids would enjoy?? Disclaimer... I'm clueless as I'm not a parent!

You'll have to drive east and meet up with the NE convoy. That'll get your engine warm.

I am happy to organise the event as long as the car club organisers pitch in to spread the word. I am hoping for about 3 gatherings a year over the spring, summer and autumn and probably about 100 cars max. It can easily cope with that number of cars. It’s a very good venue for people with kids too.

It will be set days for the main gatherings. Can’t imagine them been too pleased if 100 cars just turn up and demand a bit of grass for there own. Also people are more likely to travel a bit further if the event is planned in advance.

Just a little point. 'Yorkshire Clan Gathering' may give the impression it's only for Yorkshire folk. Perhaps that's the intention but there are a lot of folk this end of the country that, like you, look on enviously at 'VW'. Why not depersonalise it, call it what it is, Harewood House or HH to keep in line with Virginia Waters

Hi,

It's just a work in progress at the moment. If you have a better suggestion then please feel free. Of course everyone will be welcome . I chose yorkshire cos it's easy to see where it is. It took me about 20 Threads before i found out virginia waters is down south.

BNG is used by Gemini .
Supercar Sunday is used by gaydon, if it happens?

Can't use Harwood House, cos they may not be too happy with the idea. Also, the venue hasn't been confirmed So HH may be TN.

Any suggestions.

Think its a great idea Chris
Only thing to be careful of is that the car world is now becoming so "organised" that there are too many events. This leads to a situation where we cannot provide punters for them all and things are getting diluted.

I mention this because MRS S righly states that sherburn have suggested a night meet like the ACE cafe meet - great, Im up for that
The TVRCC has now organised the track day at CROFT on the same weekend as PF - now IM pissed as this is my track excursion of the year!

The Griff growl andthe BBW meet all cut into prime time and as for BNG when do we have a weekend free?

If we can do it periodically and your up for running it then great - count me in - just be realistic with numers and dates - get it on the PH calendar asap and let TVRCC know for web site and "Sprint" or let me know and ill do that

I don't know where VW is, but I've a suspicion that it's just a big car park next to a lake. That's where VW's simplicity lies - just organise a date and everyone turns up, pays a couple of quid to get in the car park and stand and have a natter.

If the Northern gathering is ever to be as successful, it needs to be simple to organise and that's where having the event at Harewood or some other fancy house would be it's downfall.

We need a location where we can just turn up en-mass on a date we have planned only a couple of weeks earlier that doesn't inflict on other events.

If we can sort that out, then you can count on one Cerbera turning up - no probs.

Having attended various VW meets when I was down south it is an expensive(£4)large car park next to a lake/park with a large pub next to it.

If you can find something similar (and preferably cheaper) then count me in. I doubt if you can do it on a weekend that does not conflict with something else so pick a date that suits you - put it in events and wait for people to turn up. I like the idea that its at short notice as this keeps it spontaneous.

VW started with 20 cars or so and has now grown to over 200.

Pick a date and I will see if I can make it - I need to meet a few more of the northern PHers.

Hi,

The dates are 18th April, 8th August, 31st October. Harewood dosen't have anything big on these days.

The venue has been picked because there is stuff to do for the little un's. It dose cost to get in, but thats because there are things to do. Hence means I can attend with the kids. Thats one Maserati at least.

The events will be posted on Pistonheads calendar.

Ah well, I might be able to make 1 or 2 of them and it's only just up the road, I might have to go via Otley just to get the car warmed up!!!
I think the 18th is the WYTVRCC meet, how long will you be staying in Harewood for?

Hi,

I was aiming for 12pm to 4pm leaving driving out time after.

I was wondering when the WYTVRCC was. What time does meet start? Maybe you can drop in on the way past . It's not that far away to just nip in. You have a nice sprint between Harewood and The pub then back.
