Loads of the places around, £45, free if it doesn't work very well.

Sounds like a good deal, or is it a job best left to people who do it as specialists?

Anyone recommend my best course of action in the Leeds area? I've heard about the DIY kits but not sure it's just going to be a waste of money as it lasts half as long and still costs about £15...

Can't see what you have to lose really. They must have a semblance of training otherwise they'd never get paid! Its a fairly easy process. I suspect theyre just not very good at diagnosing if anything is wrong. Not much they can do that will damage the system. Over pressurising, maybe, but otherwise it may be worth a shot. Locally around here its £60 at an Air Con specialist. Theyre very thorough though and do several checks for leaks, correct temperature etc.

Not sure if it helps, but I overheard a conversation in my local Kwik-Fit last week - someone had taken their car in 'cos the air-con wasn't working, and the Kwik-Fit mechanic was explaining to him that the system had been over-pressurised. Seemed to know what he was talking about, so I'd give them a go...

Yeah, logic dictates they wouldn't be in business doing it unless they could do it properly.

I guess if it doesn't work and leaks then you don't get a refund, but then again I guess a proper place won't refund you either...
