Whilst in the process of setting up a workshop to finally restore my classic cars, I will be installing one or two ramps. I would like to make these available to anyone who could usefully use such a facility.
The workshop is clean and spacious and most larger items of equipment will be available ie ramps, engine hoist, engine stand, hydraulic press, jacks, steam cleaner etc etc.
I will also be around if necessary to help out with advice etc.
There will be a reasonable charge for using the facilities just to cover costs etc. and space will be available for cars that need to be there for several days.
The workshop is near Haworth.
If you are interested, email me for more details.

Good to see you have some facilities up and running Michael.

Guys, I for one will be using Michael for all work on BM and TVR that doesn't need a service stamp ... when he offers "advice" it'll be worth the charge of the ramp hire alone yes

ps: Shadytree has got the car home, is thrilled to bits with it and says another massive thank you for doing the inspection for him ... however, I'll probably drink the beer that he ows you in Le mans biggrin

I will be in touch towards the end of the summer, need to spend a day on the underside of BG, getting a bit of anti corrosion wax on the chassis before winter.

Glad to hear he liked the car. It was a gem. Oh, and enjoy the beer!
As far as service stamps are concerned, I will very shortly have a suitably worded stamp to keep service history up to date!

Look forward to the call. The ramps are well up to the job of supporting BG....

Sorry but I can't stay silent on this one.

This is going to sound like a bit of a spoiler but it's probably better that you know.

This equipment and facility will no longer be classed as 'for personal use' and that'll be the case even if you don't charge, you will still be the facility provider. As such the lifting equipment will fall under Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regs 1998 (LOLER) and the facility will need to be managed in accordance with Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regs (PUWER).

The lifting equipment will need an annual independent inspection by a LOLER registered inspector. You will need to train users and verify their understanding and keep records of that training for x years.

Basically you can't avoid or contract away your liability for the safety of the facility to the users. In some cases you can insure to protect yourself from liability. If someone is injured you will be accountable under UK law, you can insure against this. Not inspecting LOLER equipment used by third parties is a classed as a criminal offence, you cannot insure against this.

Before you take this any further I would suggest reading the Approved Codes of Practice L113 and L22 from the HSE website.

Sigh.... They didn't have these problems when I were a lad rolleyes

I was aware that the whole thing is wrapped in red tape and legislation and that Health and Safety would make sure that no-one can possibly just chill and enjoy working on their cars.....

However, I'm confident that nothing is insurmountable and solutions can be found.
I'll be damned if I'll let a bunch of bureaucrats spoil everyones fun!
