Calling all cars 2007!
Discussion
Sorry to cross post Ted, but I need to share this about a bit!
As many of you will remember I help to organise my local village carnival. Its a traditional type of event, held in the grounds of Lea Green in the Peak District. There wil be a marching band, floats, fancy dress, Tea tent, plant stalls, tombola, ice cream, coconut shy, greasy pole, races, firemans display, and lots lots more.
Its an old fashioned day out, and when the sun shines its truly lovely and the setting is gorgeous.
Many of you have been kind enough to bring your lovely cars (of all types!) to show at the event over the years.
So this year, can I please call on as many of you as possible to do the same again?
The venue is Lea Green, in Lea, Derbyshire. The date is the 23rd June and if you could be there for about 2.00pm onwards that will be great. Please e mail me if you are coming : akm@marshallglobal.com so that I can make sure enough space is set aside for the cars to be displayed nicely.
This year too we have made 2 changes for the car people:
1, after the carnival finishes at about 5.00pm, we have arranged for the vilage pub (over the road) to put on some live music and a BBQ so that those of you that want to make a full day/evening of it can do so
2, I'm looking for some people to offer to sell short rides in their cars, with a proportion of funds received being given to the carnival (the whole event raises money for charity and to support village groups) . Those who came last year will know that the interest from kids and adults in the cars was massive, so I'm thinking that a short mile ot two run round the block for a couple of quid would be popular. If you can do this please include this in your e mail to me.
Many thanks in advance to all
Andy
PS, my costume for this year has yet to be decided - any suggestions?

Thanks to everyone thats coming. I'm away now till next wednesday,(20th) but will be getting e mails from time to time. I may not be able to get to Pistonheads during that time though so if there are any questions please bear with me.
I've booked good weather for the 23rd so I'm hoping it comes through. Arrival times are whenever you like, but I recommend about 2.00pm. Venue is Lea Green as per the address earlier in this thread. If you are displaying please come in through the main gate and turn immediately RIGHT onto the grass The area along the bottom of the carnival field is where we are. Normal traffic will be directed up the drive and to the left.
Those of you giving rides please try to put yourselves near to the entrance for ease of access / egress. Come and make youself known to me. I am MC'ing the event (dressed as a Roman - Mark Anthony actually) so look for the nutter in the toga / leather skirt!
I will give the rides people a piece of paper that identifies you as a ride giver. Please put it in your car screen so that people know who to ask. We are charging £3.50 for a short blatt round the block (just a couple of miles tops) . Of this, £2.50 should come to carnival, £1 to you to cover the extra fuel you'll be burning. If you're feeling generous and want to pass on the whole £3.50 then that would be gratefully received too. There will be a float for change (I'll designate one of you to hold it if I may). Anytime you want to take a break or stop giving rides completely then thats absolutely fine. This is a traditional village carnival with Tea tents and greasy poles and coconut shy etc and we want you guys to enjoy your day out too.
We've set the ride rules as no unaccompanied kids under 14. You have the right to refuse anyone a ride at your own discretion. Any damage, howsoever caused is at your own risk. No racing please.
Those of you displaying might be advised to print out a little info sheet for your windscreen. (make, engine, performance, little history) It saves answering the same questions 50 times.
Theres a BBQ and band at the pub over the road after the event till late so those that want to stay, chill and make a whole day of it will be very very very welcome. I think that about covers it.
On behalf of the village, thanks again to all of you who are coming. Lets hope we have a lovely summers day.

I've just got back from the carnival site. Its very wet there. If it's dry over night then we should be OK. If it rains, then we'll have to put the cars somewhere else other than the grass!
I'll sort this in the morning When you arrive, Stewards will be on hand to manage the traffic, Just say the magic word "Pistonheads" and hopefully you'll be directed to the right place!
