Wheel balancing/geometry help
Discussion
I am getting a reproducible vibration at 100mph+ (where conditions allow!). It is difficult to pinpoint where it originates but I think it is due to wheel balancing. Replacing a slightly warped rear alloy helped but did not rid the problem. It is very frustrating!!!
Quickfit etc only balance upto 70mph which is no help. Can anyone recommend a good service who could wheel balance to higher speed and possible check geometry in or around Sheffield. (RT racing don't do balancing)
Thanks
Mike

yup... a balanced wheel is balanced, whatever the speed.
The problem is the accuracy of the balance and the tolerances to which many 'quick fit' type places work. I know some places balance to the nearest 10 grams, others to 5 grams.
Look for a place with a shiny new machine that is still accurate and chat to someone there who looks like they may know how to operate it properly. That bit may prove tricky...
Then ask him to check your wheel balance, explaining the cars sensitivity and saying that you don't really mind if other fitters are quicker - its the accuracy that counts.
Are your wheels original fitment? Maybe they require hubcentric rings to ensure correct alignment with the hubs. This is a common problem with aftermarket alloys.

I had this problem with the 911, i took it to two tyre places and both said the balance was fine, it still did it, different set of wheels though it went away, knew the wheels weren't bent and the tyres were ok so went to another tyre place (don't want to mention the name in case a boss reads this) and explained the problem, also told them I would bring all my wheels and tyre swaps to him and pay cash not wanting a recipt.
Result perfectly balanced tyres.
He gets all the wheel tyre swaps we do through the business, all paid in cash £5 a wheel.
Everyones happy.
