On the kind advice of mark.mullen have posted a repeat of my 1st contribution to Ph here in the Yorkshire section

thanks for any insights

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Well this is my 1st post for a long time lurker to PH - have really enjoyed the experience.

Well I have just been made redundant - now have potential opportunity to relocate from the rat-race of the South East to Harrogate. I understand that Harrogate is a lovely place - and house process in the city reflect that. I would be grateful for any advice about the best places to look for a home.

Price range 350k - 490k, min 4 beds detached, preferably in a village with local amenities within about 40 mins max commute of South Harrogate

Any advice much appreciated

Lot's of lovely villages around Knaresborough and up towards Ripon, but if you want to be close to town for that money you shouldn't have a problem around the outskirts

Knaresborough is lovely, but full of grockles for much of the year. I love the place but could not live there.

If you need any help when up here, can put you in touch with a couple of friends who are estate agents.

All I can say is that Harrogate must have changed an awful lot since I lived there!

Harrogate is full of Chavs with Vauxhall VX 220's.

Come up into the Dales for more refinement.

My house is in Starbeck (Just! ) and, as much as I like it, if i had 350-490k to spend I wouldn't even entertain the place!

Lived there for 8 years. A flat on Devonshire Place(?) off top end of Skipton Road, then Albert Road further down Skipton Road top end of Bilton (I think - long time ago) then the wonderfully named Electric Avenue, just before Jennyfields.
