Has any wise soul got an answer to my problem .I can be driving along just fine when my engine does something akin to hiccoughs ,my old motor at times feels a bit like a bucking bronco .I took it to my garage and they told me my distributer head was in really bad nick and the plugs needed changing. This was done but the problem is still there. The other thing is, it is intermitent, it can run really smoothly for quite a while and then starts up again.Has any one had a similar experience or know what may be causing it.

Sorry I cant offer any advice to help you with your problem, but you could always consult the oracles of Wedge ownership and engineering on the TVR Wedge section

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?f=12&h=0

Be sure to mention beer in the thread title and you're assured a response

Lairy lot those wedgers laugh

Different car i know but mine has that very problem which i am trying to fix this week. It also has a new distributor. We think its either a problem with the throttle pot or the leaking exhaust manifold is confusing the lambada sensor making the acceleration so erratic.

The separate registers tend to be quite quiet Pete as they don't have the amount of traffic that PH does.

I see that you have discovered the General TVR forum

I had a very similar problem on my Wedge which turned out to be the ECU
It was like flicking a switch for it to run good or bad

I finally diagnosed it by borrowing a Wedge friend's ECU when mine was running bad one day
swopped it over and it ran perfect. Swapped back and it ran badly again.
Turned out all the soldered joints had worn over time and just needed resoldering
One of the Wedge Boffins did it all for me for the cost of a pint at the BBWF

As Scott(jagdpanther) says you are best posting your problem on the Wedge part
of this PH forum for best technical help

There are quite a few Wedgers in WY and I live between Leeds and Bradford if its any help to you

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard, thanks for the suggestion, so far it's costing me quite a bit in garage fees and they still don't have any idea what the problem is.Unfortunately i am a dead loss with engines and am going to start a car maintainance course in the new year [a bit late methinks] so for now at least i still have to take the car to a garage .I live in Ilkley and if any one can help me out i will be most willing to pay for their time i might even learn something , you never know.

My Wedge (400se) also had the hiccups when I took ownership of her.
The previous owner had changed the plugs, dizzycap, plug leads and still she had the hiccups.
Its worth mentioning that the hiccups only occured under constant throttle, not when being hooned or when coming off the throttle. Just keeping her at a constant 30 or 40mph would cause the juddering and general bad running.

I too could find nothing amiss. Eventially I gave up and took the old girl to my mechanic who straight away suggested timing. Well, it was the timing. It was just a little too far advanced. Eased back off a fraction and problem solved.

Good luck mate.

Coolant temperature sensor already mentioned? If not, you can do a search on the forums and find that it very often needs replacing. Can be had at any landrover dealer.

Mine did that, just as you describe.
I changed all the ignition parts, plus earth leads and other bits.
No difference.
I took it to a rolling road. They said it was the distributer & a problem with the vacume advance. I was unsure about this.
Before I bought a new dizzy I happened to bump into Tim of ACT who directed me towards Mark Adams. He lent me a new ECU, and that transformed the car.
He said the old ECU was intermitently making it run very lean, particuarly on light throttle loads ( which was when it had hiccups ).
Hope this helps.
