Tom, I seriously would not even contemplatre this run unless you have joined a breakdown service AND your car is in A1 health, especially the brakes and handling department ...

what? did I mention high speeds and twisty roads? oooh no no no, perish the thought angel

I took the car to Johns house on monday evening and he gave the car a generally good bill of health. Needs the manifold fixing and a new header tank cap as the other has perished.I did a run out on tuesday to Helmsley and back and all seemed well.

Might join the RAC, they do a callout service from £30 a year.

Trust me on this Tom ... you need recovery, not just call out.

Two runs ago when my fuel pump decided to pack up, rather than inconvenience any of my fellow Hooners, I simply tipped my passenger into Stu's car and waited for the recovery truck to take me home ... no-one's day apart from mine was spoiled.

Think it includes recovery to nearest garage, one of them does recovery to within 10 miles, that should do. It aint cheap owning a tvr.

Edit to ad: Cheers for the concern anyway Al, i know you just dont want to see me hurting myself or anyone else by driving an unroadworthy car. Guy who sold it me did drive it every day though and spent a fair amount of cash. I just need to keep it up.

Nearest garage or even 10 miles might not be enough in the dales or over the moors. Are you sure you want to save £50 when it could cost you a lot more if you get stranded ?

I know your a poor student but for 20 pints less you get the peace of mind.

You can join the RAC with Tescos points. I think you need a quarter the value of the membership in vouchers, so £20 - £30.

Here you go: www.tescos.co.uk/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=200

£25.25 gets you £101 of cover with recovery to anywhere in the UK. If you manage to get 7 passengers in the TVR I'll buy you a pint.

If you break down at 07.15 on a Sunday morning in the middle of Fylingdales Moor, which garage within 10 miles would you choose Tom? It is honestly false economy to have anything less than full recovery Tom. Count it as a result if you never have to use it.

It also gives your fellow drivers peace of mind that you are in safe hands and they do not feel duty bound to freeze their nuts off by the side of the road with you

What ace weather - clear, not quite cold enough for ice but nice cold air

John, I'll see how the land lies. Vic's been pretty tolerant recently with the cars and I'm not seeing much of Gabby with working stupid hours at the mo. How long are you thinking for the drive? An hour to hour and a half or a long one?

Would love to join you guys, but I'm at Pock ball Saturday evening, so will be a total mong all day Sunday!

Why doesn't Tom have a ride with an older hand and save his Tiv and the dosh for another day?
