According to my December copy of "Sprint" it's the second Sunday of the month at The Chequers Pub, Bilston-in Ainsty, near York, off the B1224. I don't go because of a conflict with Junior Rugby.

It's on the back road from York to Wetherby a few miles Wetherby side of Rufforth.

Forgot about this, might take the uber-jalopy out for a run

Fraid I brought the uber-cruiser instead the uber-jalopy, basically as I couldn't be @rsed to clean it again if I had to show it to a potential buyer next Saturday! But Bob let my mate Ron (blueyonder) have a sit in the Tuscan, with now appears to have complicated his buying decision even more somewhat

Just got home now. When i was following you to overtake that car i had to abort and the car on the otherside of the road was booting it. Locked the wheels, back end went out 2 times back into the other lane before collecting it. Humbled i decided to drive slower the rest of the way home until...

It stalls for no reason at the next junction, eventually got it started (just as a milf and her equally loverly daughter came from their house to help). For the rest of the journey it kept cutting out so i had to constantly rev it and be very quick between the pedals at junctions to keep the revs up. Became almost impossible to drive so i stopped at a total garage when i saw how busy the roads were, i wouldent have made it. Stop the car for a while, drive it around the forecourt and leave it to stand for a while and as it the way with these things it seems to be ok and no longer stalling once restarted. So car it running again lets go home. yes. until...

500 yards later i see plooms of steam billowing from the engine bay and the temperature guage well into the red. Gind to a halt at the garage on the A59 roundabout on the York ring road.

hmmm, so no problem i shall top it up with water once it has cooled and be on my way? no. because i have no money to buy any. so call someone to bring me some? no. because being a poor student i have 0p phone credit. get the RAC to help me? no. because i am not a member.

So i sit there for 2 hours until my mother rings me and i can tell her to send my dad to help me. HE comes, car gets topped up and we are on our way until...

It starts overheating again and we have to stop again, i open the filler car (using a towel) and vesuvius comes out nearly taking my my hands and face off and the filler cap gets blown into the hedgerow - great- took ages to find that. But we were on our way again. For a good few miles all was well no overheating (so maybe there was an airlock whick escaped nearly killing me which was the problem. So almost home when on huge clifton moor roundabout while at the front of the que what happened ?..

Yes the stalling problem came back and it wouldent start again, with 100 cars waiting behind me and 5 minutes gone by i gave it some gas and it just got going, limped it home.

All of that took place in the space of 20 miles and 3 1/2 hours.

TVR ownership - why did nobody tell me it was like this?

scratchchin I did wonder where you went Tom.

Sorry to hear. All I can say is, you got the car pretty cheap, so treat it to a decent service... it will thank you for it in spades yes

One thing someone should have told you ... it might be past it's best, but it was still a high performance quite expensive car in it's day. You DO need to keep up with the maintenance and this will not be as cheap as a Ford Escort. infinitely more pleasurable though Tom.

True..... I keep changing my mind, Chim, Griff, Tamora and now a Tuscan which, by the way Bob, looked gorgeous. Do I go for the best I can afford and allow for the cost of the inevitable S6 engine rebuild (unless it's had one already of course)or dip the toe with say a Chim or Griff scratchchin

Tom - I did mention in the pub that they are a bit skittish in the wet. Also given your comment earlier about spinning the wheels in second I think you need to get used to the car a bit better before any heroics- we don't want to lose you !

We have done on various occasions - usually taking the mick out of Minimax, You joined in so now its pay back time !

Also we did whilst in the pub ! Burriana did warn you to get RAC cover.

The moral of the story is always keep a couple of quid on the phone, or get an old one and leave it in the car for emergencies. I would have come out and given you a hand if I had known. I think next time you get to lead from the pub and then we won't get tailed off the back.

I hope everything is OK and it all gets sorted. I suspect the first thing is to give it a good servicing (including the brakes if its pulling you into other lanes) and then get out and enjoy it.

Sorry to hear of the problems and hope you get it sorted soon.

As discussed in the pub:
Chim/Griff for V8 engine longetivy - depends on which styling you prefer and whether you want to start with a 5 litre. It does have that burble as well.
Tamora for handling - but you need the 5k for an engine rebuild every 20k miles.
Tuscan for looks, pops and bangs on the overrun and general hooning. (Also keep some money back for incidentals)

Or Tuscan for posing and Chim for everyday trundling That way you should always have one on the road. (And before anyone has a go at me for having a pop on reliability, I have only been let down on the road once in 5 years and over 65k miles - with a combined car age of 18 years !)

Dont worry Bob, i shall be driving much slower in the wet now. Infact i might buy an impreza for wet days and hvae a tiv for sunshine.

Normally have phone credit and breakdown membership will follow shortly (any idea which is cheapest?)

It didnt so much pull to the other lane but the whole back end went under braking (life flash before eyes moment) and i admit i was very lucky.

John is going to see is he can sort out the throttle problem and i will get it a serive. FOr now i only hope all that overheating hasnt done any serious damage to the engine.
