I'm looking for the best road in Yorkshire (or north midlands), especially at this time of year.

It has to be quiet so you can enjoy it at a reasonable speed rather than being held up by one of the 30mph club.

Very twisty

Good road surface (plenty of grip and not bumpy)

Has to be wide so the car will fit down ok and have room for some rear end antics!!!

A few good stretched to get on the power.

Does such a road exist round here? Something like the Woodhead, but a lot less busy and a few more bends.

Cheers.

You want to be up in East Yorkshire and over into North Yorks Moors mate - especially the northern "TT" triangle yes

Empty roads and no traffic (though we do tend to do it at 6am Sunday mornings!)

Drop StuB an email via his profile and ask which road it is. A particularly good bit up through the valley is from Stokesly south to Helmsley ... I believe it is the B1257 but stu would confirm this and also the A169 across Fylingdales between Whitby and Pickering, either way ... or loads of white roads to the West of that road around Rosedale Abbey.

Then there's all the East Yorks roads ... tons of 'em ... why do you think we live here

Scarborough to Driffield over Staxton is good fun, keeping it down through Foxholes and Langtoft of course.

The best I know is Hutton Le Hole to Castleton over the moors, cracking high speed sections and tighter twisities. Just keep an eye out for the sheep.

If you're prepared to travel a bit further, I can recommend something far better than the Northern TT! Might even accompany you if the weather's ok.

Go on, Im listening? It'll probably be something for a day out in the spring if its a bit further away.

We're coming from Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

And that one Scarborough to driffield I think Ive been on before, and yeah it is a good one, though my cousin de-capitated a rabbit along there.

Anyone wanting to join in a good run along some good roads is more than welcome.

What you all driving?

I drive a hairdressers car, a couple of diesels, a moped and a kart, though still learning my craft

Do a search for 'Wazz' and you'll see that we do this kind of thing fairly often, though the route I have in mind is more of an all day run.

Rotherham's not too far from us anyway, max 1/2 hour, so how come we haven't seen you out to play before?

I only started on this forum about 2 days ago, so thats probably the main reason.

Ive been a pistonhead member for a couple of years and sold a couple of cars on the site, but never really ventured into the forums before.

So where abouts is this road then? How long to get to it?

Drive to Settle Via the A65 from Leeds. When you get to Long Preston TURN left, go over the River Ribble and Turn Right. The Road runs for about 4 miles to Settle, has no traffic, plenty of mud (for power slides), plenty of potholes, buy is twisty but NO cameras.

When you get to Settle head for Hawes via Horton in Ribblesdale, and once in Hawes Try going north and follow the Pennine way via the back roads.

Try a Monday Morning about 10 am !!!

Burnie's organised one over the break hasn't he, so no point clashing with that.

It's a nice cross country B road drive of about 3 hours, then a first rate A road for about an hour, then an awesome B road for another hour or so, then it'd be a 2 hour dual carriageway return home.

That one sounds like a good day. I suppose its always nice to have a bit of a cool down on a dual carriage way on the way back.

I'll have to try that settle one too. It'll take a bit up the M1 to get to but thats no problem.

Whats this xmas one thats been organised by burnie then? When is it and where?

Well I did have some pictures I could add from our little trip out through holmfirth and over that big hill at the other side that takes you back to the Woodhead, It was the worst weather going though, so it was hard to hold the camera still.

How do you post pics on here?

And Im not too far away from Chesterfield, so I should be up for Bernies do.

And as for the cool down, motorways or dual carriage ways are usually there to cool down. Unless I sit at 70 in second on the limiter?

Plus that Griff will do 180mph flat out. It was a custom built car especially made for Peter Wheelers wife. It even featured in Holby City once.

I'll try and find a good pic.
