Any one know what was happening at Elvington today work about 5 miles away and all i could here all day was the sound of large highly tuned engines, better than the radio anyday. I heard they used to run Jaguar race cars there for development.

saw this in the paper yesterday.

So only going to happen 10 days of the year.

What a shame due to the moronic protestors.

Surely the air field was all ready there when they bought their houses so they new what to expect, like those people who move to the country then moan about noisey tractors and smell from muck spreading.

I used to work at USAF Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire.

They used to hol dlots of car relate devents there until the locals complained. Obviously a car's exhaust is more annoying than a F11 low flying over your garden.

I work with someone who lives in Elvington.

She says the noise isnt that bad at all.

she didnt complain, infact shes all for the testing, and she isnt a car nut! she moved to the area knowing what it was like, so she has no complaints! thank god for common sense!

It isn't really the elvington villagers that complain.

Its the ones that live on the wheldrake side of the village.

There is about a dozen houses close to the airfield there, they regularily d sound testing there too.

Oh and one of the residents is a councillor, another a judge. So thats why its happening

Last time I was there they were worried about the noise even a standard M3 was making - not exactly a loud car. It was doing donuts at the time though so it could be tyre rather than engine noise which is the problem. Wind direction makes a difference too.

I'm there again with the Cerb on Wednesday...

I heard a good story about Rockingham when it first opened and they tried to ban Sunday morning events because of church.

They set up sound metres in the church but couldn't get any readings because of a blackbird twittering in the graveyard so they adjusted the sensitivity of the noise metre and the church bells nearly blew the back out of it.

They accepted a donation towards the church roof fund.

Can you get to see anything when the F1 teams are there?

Just thinking there are a couple of times in August and I thought I might pop down with my son.
