I've got a half day Ride Drive session tomorrow, ending in a session at Elvington.
Can anyone suggest some good roads around the area that will be good and reasonably quiet?

When I did RideDrive, starting from Leeds, the instructor (Stuart Grigg ?) knew all the best roads already.

Depends on where you're starting from, but I'd recommend B1230 from North Cave to Beverley, then head north B1248 uptowards Malton and upto Stokesly if you have time on the B1257, then head back down A19 from Stokesly or cross country (due south) from Malton towards Pocklington way, and down to Elvington.

Stuart took me for a full day out in the Lambo and we went up to Penrith on the back roads. Had a great day, he knows all the routes. Can't believe the speed we were doing on deserted country road

P.S. Berverley to North Cave maybe a bit far, but I agree its a great road.

I'm with Dave Dobson from Harrogate area. He asked me which roads I would prefer.
Might ask him to choose. I guess he's chased a few joy riders down some nice local roads in the past!

That's interesting, we went in the other direction across the moors to the coast on my day out. He must know just about every good road in North Yorkshire.

yes MOH ended up at the coast on his day, and the speeds he told me he was doing I couldn't believe either.

He had a great time though

If you head up from Hutton le Hole on the Pickering to Scarborough road, through Hutton le Hole and up towards Castleton over Blakey ridge. You will get to Whitby in the end and can then come back to Scarborough, up Staxton, across to Driffield via Foxholes and Langtoft. Once at Driffield you've got some higher speed A roads through to Market Weighton and then across to Elvington.

When I next have something swift I think I will do that route early one morning in the summer.

Did that road on the PH Fish and Chip run recently, (Chippy in Wetwang is Smashin).
We turned right at that roundabout rather than went up the hill. Several of the convoy then overtook a police Landrover briskly!

I have read quite a bit about these Ride Drive days recently and quite fancy a go, are they worth it, and do you learn quite a lot?

I'd say yes and yes.

I learnt a lot about "making progress" in a positive and safe way. The instructors are ex-police so they have a method which works and to which they like to stick. Good fun too.

I didn't learn much about car control, I saw Don Palmer for that. But that is a different game entirely...

We did a stint at Elvington, (avoiding the Hamster marks).
Mr Dobson felt a bit sick after I spent an hour trying to unstick the VX hehe driving
It turns out you have to be really brutal to get the back end to step out.

(There were several Bentley Continental GT's being tested at the time. The drivers were definately looking down their noses at us darting around like a mad wasp!).

Got the 2nd half day tomorrow. Will pass on my regards.

So far, I'ts been a refresher for the IAM test I did a few years ago.
Its certainly a lot better though, having an expert in the car with you who can assess you and then build on what you know.

excellent.

might be going down there myself.

I'm heasring slightly odd noises on start up from cold and I think a wheel bearing is squeaking and an alloy is corroding a bit.

oh for a TVR.. hehe

I'll give you my opinion on Sunday if you like Mike?
