Track experiences near Leeds?
Discussion
I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good track day experience in the yorkshire ish area?
Me and my friend (VX220, S2000) want to take our cars onto the track, but another friend wants to go and drive something fun too (he drives a punto). I was thinking something along the same lines as what we have so something elise-y.
Is there anywhere we could go for a good day out where we could get track instruction, while my mate goes for an *experience* drive (presumably they come with an instructor)?
Thanks people,
Mark

tyres and a few chips are alot cheaper
than a new clam.
donington is not a beginners circuit and croft
is even worse, much better on an air field first,
bedford is great but its about 120miles.
bruntingthorpe is abit boring and about 100miles
elvington is ok about 30 miles.
come on october 7 with bookatrack.
ill take you for a blast round.

I disagree - I knew most of it from watching bike gps for years
Was my first trackday and loved every minute.
I'd advise doing an evening open pit - no pressure.
My last visit was in the coupe and had to be dragged out the gravel after a slight whoops. Zero damage to the car or anyone.
Elvington - the 99 quid airfield day ruined the front of my car, people had no manners and didn't shift out the way. I mean a golf gti is good but in a straight line its mince v a 320 plus bmw - did he move ? Nope and I left with a peppered front end.
Go to a proper track.
Donington is one of the safest circuits in the country and whilst it is possible to go off both there and at Croft, hitting something whilst doing so is un-usual. I'd skip the airfields and go straight to the track - at the end of the day, you have given up a day of work, got to the venue, paid for fuel - the slight extra cost of the proper track day over an airfield pails into insignificance compared to the additional experience
The main problem with Donnington is the strict noise regulations - not just static but drive-by 98dBA. Noisy tyres can fail that! Not a hope in hell of my bike engined kit car getting on there
Elvington is a good place to begin (if you don't mind stonechips) because you can overcook it and it doesn't matter - no armco to hit. There's a couple of Javelin trackdays there at the end of October - assuming they can have it back by then!

I have a bike engined car that i use for trackdays probably 15-20 per year, and i also have a race bike that I do the same with. Honestly, for your first time on the track I would recommend elvington, although it is a little hard on your tyres and you are prone to stonechips, all you need to do is go out and buy some sticky plastic sheets and cover the nosecone and bottom sides of your car before you go on. then when you have finished you will just take it off and go home. you might have bald tyres, but you won't have any stone chips or a smashed up car that's been down the barriers.. i've been there quite a few times and it's expensive. Trackdays are a brilliant thing, but you will get carried away, and you will spin off if you are pushing your car to the limit. if you are not, then you ain't going fast enough. it's a no brainer really.
