Picked the RS4 cab up sunday before last. Early hours wednesday some dirty feckers broke in and stole the keys, car, laptop, breitling bently and cash whilst I was alseep. not a happy bunny. The police just don't even seem to be trying, in 2 days I've only have seen the comunity bobby to take down the particulars and give me a crime number.

Did you know that most UK police forces now recommend taking your car keys to bed(room) with you at night?

I remember being given a sticker for the front door window some months ago by a crime prevention officer in Leeds which said " I take my car keys to bed with me " and was touted as something to display in the front of your house,

cold comfort I know john, saw a nice black RS4Cab about a week ago, might even have been you.....sob.....

I thought recent info was to leave the keys in a visable place downstairs somewhere eg, bowl in the kitchen. The argument being if the thieves want your car that bad better for them to just take the car rather than having to assualt you & your family to get hold of the keys .... cars can be replaced & all that

An ex colleague at work had his Evo VIII stolen to order (they left the Tamora he had parked next to it). Because they couldn't find the keys immediately, they shot him (he's recovered thankfully).

I'd be tempted to have some device fitted to my car that lets it drive fine until you hit a speed of over 70mph - if a switch hasn't been flicked by that point, the brakes cut out. They're more than welcome to the keys then!

I have always wanted to develop a device attached to the HV side of the coil that is activated above a ertain speed and is fitted centrally to the drivers seat. Should be a suitable deterent for the unwary !

Whilst I can see where you're coming from, I think perhaps removing the ability to brake is not the best plan. If me or any of my family were run over by a vehicle that had been restricted from braking, the person who had commissioned the said security system would have bigger things to worry about that his/her car being stolen.

Perhaps a better system would kick in once the car first came to a rest, and would then cut all power from the engine and electrics, and lock the doors. And maybe send 5,000 volts through the seats.
