On my daily walk into work, Along what I think is called spring lane (the road that runs from the B&Q by badger hill towards the heslington roundabout) I often hear what sounds like an F1 car blatting up and down the runway at Elvington. There was one there this morning I think. Does anyone else ever here this? I guess it's one of the teams doing straight line testing but I've never seen or heard anything about it. Anyone paid the airfield a visit to watch?

Yep, they test the F1 cars there, local residents don't like it though, see here - http://archive.yorkpress.co.uk/2006/4

Yep as has been said they use it for straight line work and also shakedowns.

Keevil and Santa Pod are also used.

there was midland F1 and renault testing not so long ago

went to see midland, but there wasn't much to see tbh...

but someone with a little more walking distance than me may be able to see more

Please do. I've been up a couple of times to watch, all depends on timing when you go and what they are doing as to what you get to see. I can hear them when I'm at work but a bit of advance knowledge of when they are going to be there would be great.

What a surprise, yet again we have morons that go ahead and buy a house near to an airfield ... then complain about the fricking noise. It beggars belief ... did their conveyancing solicitor forget to do a local search or what?

www.elvington.biz/news.htm

This has a timetable of the events at elvington, I presume that where it says 'Mclaren' that this means it is booked out to them so you all know the dates.

the interesting ones to watch are the boys from hereford practising airport asaults from a herc doing a rolling landing and takeoff and low level drops. apparently they can't do it at RAF bases due to health and safety on mod property
