With the 2006 trip now over, its time to sort out 2007. If we can get enough people to make it viable (25+) we will hire our own van and equipment rather than relying on Dorset to take stuff down for us. This gives us the advantage that we can also load kit onto the van rather than pack the boots of the cars/bikes.

Outline plan is to set off on Tuesday returning Monday (optional stop off Sunday night in France to get a decent shower).

J_S_G (although if we're setting off on Tuesday, I'll be expecting fun hooning in the Alps Wed & Thu, or we've just wasted two prime days of mountain fun. Oh, and I'm likely to have something a bit less barge like for tackling the twisties by then, too! )

I need to stop going to Le Mans it is costing way too much. After some quick talking by Al, Bob and others (and a convenient promotion and pay rise at work) I have decided to get a Chimeara. Sold my old car and got a reasonable insurance quote, now just need to find a good car.

Quick thread hijack:

I am looking for a 98/99 post facelift car (probably a 450). If anyone hears of any good ones I would be grateful if they could let me know. When I do find the right car I also want to get someone who really knows the cars to do a proper inspection, so if anyone knows anyone that would be good.

Thanks and hijack over.

Cheers

Roll on Le Mans 2007 (hopefully with my own car to take down there!).

Go for the 500 ... no sane reason not to!

Yep, the 450 is too slow and you probably would regret it

Well since making that post I have spoken with Rob Ingleby. Seen some good posts about him on the Chimeara forum. I don't know enough about mechanics, so need help from somone knowledgable. He said he knows about a few cars that fit the criteria, including one he inspected for the current owner, being this one:

www.pistonheads.com/sales/45383.htm

I actually like the colour, maybe a bit tame for some, but I like it. He also mentioned a slightly lower price he is aware the owner would take as he needs to sell it having moved abroad.

What do the collective think. I would get him to do a new inspection on it and to be fair I need to arrange to drive a chimeara first. I have been in a few and driven Goph's tuscan, but never driven a chimeara.

And you are hestitating why?

Thats a gorgeous colour, not seen many in metallic grey, and the interior is different too (in a nice way).

They are genuinely nice cars too, especially with the Griff 500 wheels... it also has the Griff 500 engine (the right one).
Money looks good for the age and mileage. If I were buying one you'd have just seen me run off and snap it up (assuming in the skin it's as good as it sounds)

Get it checked quick!

Sorry for the off topic...

Is the plan still to sort out an account so no one messes around then Bob?

I'll be going assuming my sister's wedding does not clash, as it shouldn't.
