Good roads near Leeds
Discussion
Hahahah!
Look for a sign that says NORTH YORKSHIRE.
Roads around Leeds are horrendous. Cramped, poorly maintained and Gatso'ed. I'm not sure any other parts of West Yorkshire are better.
Seriously though, the North Riding has better maintained (and generally quieter) roads, no Gatsos, and infinitely better scenery. Trundle up the A1 then head east towards Thirsk, then keep going. Pick a road at random, northwards, eastwards or southwards. Swoopy roads, curvy roads, straight roman roads, it has them all. Even the busy A64 is a delight in comparison to those around here

Quick and smooth?
May as well go to a track if you want quick and smooth.
Surely you want challenging, complex and varied, so you have twice the fun at half the speed and twice the fuel and brake consumption...?
Get up to Greenhow from the A59, and then to Patley bridge for a challenge. Just stay sensible with corner entry speeds though

I have just moved to Leeds, and I have got myself a Golf R32 this week. I haven't had chance to do much local exploring yet but want to take the new car out of town see what she's got! Has anyone got any recomendations for some quick, smooth, GATSO free roads around Leeds,
Cheers
Leeds itself is a nightmare on your car...I think Ive busted a balljoint just on normal roads.
Anyway, some of the roads up towards Otley Chevign are decent, but very dangerous
If you follow the backroads that lead upto Squires Biker Cafe,(Sherburn In Elmet) those roads are absolutely awesome
Also some roads up towards Barwick In Elmet, Behind Leeds & Bradford Airport
Once you've got away from the potholes of West Yorkshire most of the back lanes between Leeds and Harrogate are good fun. Agree that the best local run is to get up on a Sunday morning, take the B6451 Otley - Pateley Bridge road, head up from PB to Greenhow and then either turn left back towards Harrogate or press on to Grassington. Drop back via Bolton Abbey and have a leisurely Sunday lunch in The Fleece at Addingham.
The B1224 Wetherby-York road is ok but gets muddy, favourite but not that local is B1257 Helmsley to Stokesley road.

seconded, but coming Stokesly to Helmsley up the valley ... we did that on the last Wolds Wazz, just awesome at 7am on a Sunday morning.
East Yorkshire also has some superb camera free roads, through the Wolds and up over North Yorks Moors.

F you you poloneck wearing porker driver with TVR headlights!!
Even now they're clean AND they have HI bulbs in, I took it out tonight and they truly are sh*** lights!
And it isn't a polo neck, just an old wooly jumper ... I'm sure I could dig around in the old golfing stuff if you'd like ... still have to go a long way to beat the Nora Batty look though.
