Super unleaded in the Dales?
Discussion
Where can I reliably buy super unleaded over the Easter weekend in and around the Dales?
Mrs Oxgreen and I will be staying at our favourite place in the world: the Stone House hotel in Sedbusk, near Hawes.
Travelling up from the south, so I usually route via Settle and then blast across the Dales. This time we’ll be in the TVR, so strongly prefer super unleaded. But I can’t remember whether the Co-Op petrol station in Settle does super. Anyone know?
And are there any petrol stations within the Dales so I can top-up during our stay? I know the community-run station in Hawes is usually a fantastic price, but don’t think it does super.
Any suggestions gratefully received!

Thanks guys!
A few years ago I seem to remember using a small petrol station somewhat more central in the Dales.
I think it had super, because I had to wait ages for a lorry to move out of the way before I could get to that pump. On that occasion I was in the Saaaaab rather than the TVR, so I could have taken regular unleaded but still preferred super!
Anyone know what petrol station that might have been? Kinda central, maybe slightly to the south of the Dales area.

Think I'll fill up when we stop for lunch somewhere like Knutsford services, even though it's motorway price - because I'm not 100% sure I can make it to Settle on one tank. But I will also brim the tank as I go through Settle so I arrive at the Stone House as full as possible for the weekend ahead.
Fingers crossed for the weather. We always seem to be outrageously lucky and get beautiful weather when we go up there. And the hotel is surrounded by fields with sheep just a few yards away, so there'll be plenty of lambs gambolling!
I've got a feeling the other petrol station I'm half-remembering was the Spar at Threshfield. Looking at the blurry image on Google Streetview, there might well be a super pump there.

I think it does. (otherwise several in Skipton do), but either way you need to take the Threshfield > Bucken > Cray route as it is a fantastic drive. This would make a nice run

Sedbusk > Kilnsey via the Yockenthwaite side.. (coffee at the trout farm or a walk to Conistone Pie (not overly strenuous but very rewarding). Loop back via Bucken and Aysgarth. Upper Wharfedale is very pretty at this time of year. Buckden Pike if you are feeling athletic. Aysgarth falls if you are not.

One day I will set my alarm for 6am and take the TVR for a proper run along Buttertubs Pass, which is literally a mile or two from the Stone House. No point doing it later; it’s too rammed with cyclists and dawdlers.
By the way, there’s a reason I keep going on about the Stone House: it really is an incredible hotel. We’ve been going there for donkey’s years, and it’s only recently that I’ve figured out exactly why we love it. Obviously the rooms are lovely and the food is excellent - those are givens. But there’s something else. You know how all hotels refer to you as “guests”, but really that’s just a euphemism for “customers”? Well, that’s not the case at the Stone House. Here, you really feel like you’re guests staying with friends. The hosts (I won’t call them “staff” - it doesn’t seem right) somehow manage to balance excellent service with a genuinely warm friendly greeting, without resorting to being matey. Actually, even using the word “service” seems wrong - you never feel like you’re receiving service - it’s just so natural.
An utterly lovely place. Go there!

The answer is yes. Just got back from Settle
Cool - thanks for the confirmation! So my fuel strategy is: fill up at Ottershaw Shell on the way out of Woking; top-up at Knutsford services when we stop for lunch; top-up again at the Co-Op in Settle; then refuel at Leyburn Gulf whenever we head
And I’ve bought a nice 10 litre Jerry can from Halfrauds, which I’ll also fill up on the way out of Woking. It fits “nice and Kentucky*” in the side of the Chimaera’s boot.
Oil futures are already rising on the news that I’m taking the TVR this time.
Naturally I have alerted the RAC of our trip, and as usual they have cancelled all holiday leave for the weekend to ensure all patrols are available. I know them all by name anyway, so they’ll be fine with it.
* Look it up in “The Meaning of Liff”.

Always love the Settle to Hawes driving route through Stainforth, Horton, Ribblehead viaduct etc, lovely scenic route with lots of photo opportunities, the road has a bit of everything, as well as a few hidden dips that would love to rip your sump out
So many great driving roads around there, Hawes down towards Burnsall through lovely villages like Buckden, Kettlewell, Kilnsey, Linton, loads of nice traditional little pubs you could stop off at. The original Emmerdale pub, The Falcon is at Arncliffe not far from that route as well, about as oldie worldie as it gets.
Also a Tesco with Momentum at Skipton if you get that far.
Have a great time, the weather is looking good
