South Yorshire Rally - Penistone
Discussion
Yeah should be good.
Lots of good roads around that area. Will be the second closed road rally in Yorkshire.
I do have a worry that it’s another nail in the coffin of road rallying though.
The East Riding stages has seen off the Beaver Rally, and I expect the South Yorkshire stages will mean we won’t have any more road rallies using the the roads around the Strines now either ( Dansport or Jackson Trophy)

It has been a few years in setting up. They have already changed the date from when it was originally planned. Drumroll said:

We are in final negotiations with land owners regarding the spectator areas which will have catering and toilet facilities. We also hope to have some sort of PA system and a commentator to entertain the spectators.
The full route will not be released to the general public until closer to the event, to stop wanna be boy racers trying to be rally drivers. If you live on the route, you will have received either a letter or visit from one of our resident liaison team.
I hope this answers your questions. We will be launching our new event website shortly where all this information will be available. The address is: www.southyorkshirestagesrally.co.uk

Anyone got wind of anything further on this? I’ve been scouting the Barnsley MBC website for road closure info and am keeping an eye on social media / the SHMC website etc but haven’t seen anything more yet.
For me it’s on a par with when the Tour de France came over from Holmfirth and onto the Strines. Sadly, with a poorly child, I missed that (and was hugely disappointed) so I’m really keen on seeing some rallying on what are very much my ‘home’ roads, despite living a stones throw from Boreham nowadays.

Based on the minutes here https://www.penistonetowncouncil.gov.uk/wp-content... it seems there’s still work going on to finalise arrangements. Good to see they’re already talking about a 2024 date though.
It isn't in the Town council's powers to approve the road closures, this statement on the Borough council's site is noncommittal about supporting the event - https://www.barnsley.gov.uk/news/cabinet-to-consid...
