Hi, I'm looking for someone reputable to fit an LSD to my 1-series. My usual place won't fit customer-supplied parts (I already bought the LSD elsewhere).

Any suggestions?

Thanks rfisher - I did come across that guy, seems good but I've not managed to get hold of him.

I found 'B&M Care' in Pudsey so I've booked it in there now.

Andy charges £50 per hour + VAT.

He also knows what he's doing and is happy to chat about cars and engines all day.

I usually call his mobile and leave a message indicating what I'd like to have done, and whether or not I've already got the parts needed for the job.

He'll call you back when he can.

Never been to B+M so can't comment on them.

Hopefully B&M care don't have your pants down, I used them once and their service was appalling and they were expensive. A simple coolant water bottle replacement became a massive ordeal with the car being returned to them on 3 occasions...albeit this was a long time ago, hopefully things have improved since then and your experience is better!

Happy to recommend The BMW Workshop. Anthony and Matt look after my e90 330i and are always very helpful. https://www.theworkshopleeds.co.uk/

Thanks all. Tried The Workshop - they also won't fit customer-supplied parts, but I'll keep them as an option for other work.

B&M Care quoted over £500 for fitting, which is double what BMW were asking, so I've cancelled that..

Turns out Andy's on holiday so I'll give him a go once he's back.

I used B&M care once but would never go back, pretty crap experience with them. Overcharging and really poor service was my experience.

Anthony at BMWorkshop has been great though. Ive had more than one car to them (M3 and M135i). Suprised to hear they wouldnt fit a customer supplied part.

Out of interest, have you bought the BMW part or quaife or something else?

I’ve used Andy Turner and Anthony/Matt at The Workshop (was BM Workshop) for years on all my M3’s and they’re both great.

Anthony/Matt do all my regular servicing on the M3’s but won’t do customer supplied parts for some reason which is very frustrating.

Andy Turner is one of the best mechanics/engineers I’ve ever met so gets anything that’s non-routine servicing and he’s always brilliant.

Andy is pretty much always away during the school holidays but is well worth waiting for when he’s back.

I used B&M Care once 10+ years ago and I havent been back - I don’t need to say anything more…

Yeah it's a BMW diff, I bought it from Rybrook BMW. They said at The Workshop it's to do with insurance. Even Stratstone BMW in Leeds won't fit it!

Andy T will def be your best bet and worth waiting for.

Although he’ll probably make a diff for you out of old bits in the workshop that’ll be better than the BM one - he’s a mechanical genius… :-)
