Hey guys,

I used to be a little bit active on this forum a few years ago when I owned a Mazda 3 MPS. I went on a couple of Dawn Raids, followed by some really nice breakfast stops. I met some great people along the way and really miss it.

I've been thinking lately, do these Dawn Raids Still happen? Or is everything more or less 'static' now? I would love to get to know a few more people!

Cheers
Jon.

I used to do a few of those PH runs too!

These days I generally go on my own or with a couple of trusted friends, our last run was a very early one to the Lakes - we were on top of Honister Pass by 8am biggrin

Might be fun to join a group run again sometime.

Yeah I've done a couple of runs on my own but the PH drives were just something different! I definitely agree with you on looking at a group run. I wonder if any of the old school users are still on here to arrange something?

14 years ago this one, I just happen to have some photos.

Tybo, Trickie Dickie, Stu B, Mark Holroyd, possibly Burriana I think all present on this one? Anyone else spot themselves? (I was in the 306 at this point).

Amazing to think that the Gallardo and that 57 plate Exige were pretty much new cars at this point!

And this was 2009 I think (phone cameras have come on a bit eh!):

thumbup I never attended one that size, but I did a few in the years following including North Wales as well as the Dales.

If I was organising I would want 10 cars or less these days I think.

I was in at least one of those gatherings. Infact the one with the hideous pink 200sx might even have been one of the ones I arranged.

Ive had a couple of goes trying to set more up, it's just not easy getting people who are willing to make time for it and back in those days there were enough experienced hands that it all went smoothly. I don't mind setting one up, but there's no way I'm doing it with a load of people who have never been on one unless there are old hands to be down the pack to keep it together. These sort of events need a lot of trust and the right sensible people on board. What you don't want are a couple of fools coming along and ruining it.

I think your right Oliver. I remember meeting at Goole services a few times too. You had a convertible 964, if i recall...?

As for now - yes it was great fun, and the driving was generally very good. However even in these 10 or 15 years I think the public opinion on this stuff has changed and personally I am not sure I would be comfortable organising/taking part in this kind of thing again - certainly not with people I dont know.

Still do one or two of these on occasion, but due to presence of many unmarked 'hazards' plus dashcams and many other things, they tend to be well know individuals with known driving standards.

Really miss the fun we used to have for sure. We even had one run out in blizzard and snow, which was great fun.

Weather looks nice this weekend too, but we're already away in Scotland at a secret location wink

I am happy to organise one. But I unfortunately agree with all the above posts, small group, preferably of people I know or at least can tell are fairly sensible.

Only think I would say is to keep it sensible I'd make the following points.

It's a drive out of car enthusiasts. I never liked the hoon term. There's no prize for getting to the rest stops first, public road drive, speed limits etc.

Bearing in mind how these things tend to go (think big breakfast meets of old, how nice they were at first, then became nightmare chav fest's) it would be a select group and no "this is my mate Kevin he wanted to join us".

If you behave like a Berk your going to be told to go away.

If anyone fancies something on those terms then drop me an email through my profile and I'll have a look at dates. But likely be in the next month or so as spring starts to come to life.

I miss the old dawn runs, and was grateful for the patience of everyone who waited at junctions because I drive so slowly....

Absolutely loving the pics here! Is Burriana still in the game so to speak?

Yep I completely understand and I agree with the posts on this thread. Runs like this should really be kept as a close knit group as if it gets out, you get bothered by a bunch of "Certi Drivers" and that isn't the attention I want as it just attracts the BIB.
I'm not keen on organising one as such (Only because I can't organise a p'up in a brewery) but I'd be happy to attend and guide any new members that may be coming along to show them the ropes.
The key things I remember from the few I have attended is get out nice & early before 'Doris' gets up to do her shopping, don't drive like a complete buffoon and don't leave a man behind.
I'll drop you an email!

He is, having only just discovered the delights to Stuttgarts finest forced induction Beetle's.

A few of us had a run up to Staithes in sensible cars for a fab breakfast recently and then a coffee stop in Helmesley on the way back.

Drop me a message mod. I'm building a list up (so far only had one message) as the weather improves it would be nice to get out. Hopefully stu/burriana etc. (Is Leigh still around?) Will also come on board and a nice small group can be put together. I promise not too many roads with grass in the middle this time laugh

Was talking to the missus about this today and she's well up for it, so hopefully a few more people sign up to make it happen.

We'll only be in an early Z4 but it sounds like a great idea driving

Mark H here, I'm still online (but rarely), I live in New Zealand now and I'm still organising Dawn Raids with my GR Yaris albeit a bit far for you lot to attend.

I used to love going on the dawn raids or doing the ones I organised which were a bit more sedate.

In the end I had to cap numbers as I'd often get over 25 cars coming on one of my runs.

The one I organised where we were allowed to park out front of Barnard Castle was something special!

Might have to look into this. Been a while since I’ve done any karting.

Last one I remember was Leeds & getting beat by Tom B (racing snake & Rotax kart racer). Always a lot of 🤩

The ride back in an F10 M5 was a bit quicker though.
