Ski servicing - Leeds
Discussion
Does anyone have recommendations of good places for ski servicing in/around Leeds?
I’m North Leeds but happy to travel a bit, especially for a good independent rather than any of the chains like Ellis Brigham, Snow & Rock etc..
Skis haven’t been used in 6/7 years so service incl edges and waxing definitely needed.

I *think* this might be one of the guys from the long since closed shop in Crossgates... Seem to remember a mate used him and was really good.

There’s Glide and Slide in Otley, also there used to be BackCountry in Ilkley but not sure if they still do skis.
Edit Back Country are now in Otley

Thanks all - spoke to Glude & Slide who said they don’t do servicing and prob better to rent than pay for servicing and carriage on 15 yr old skis that haven’t been used in the last 5 years.!.!.!
On the flip side, Tony at Alpine Ski Servicing was a delight to speak with and I’ll be dropping the skis with him next week… don’t know if they’re worth saving and servicing but from one conversation I trust Tony more to get an honest opinion.

The skiing world is ridiculous the way it pushes people to just buy new skis all the time. So long as the bases are in fairly decent condition and the edges haven't been sharpened beyond their useful life there is no reason skis can't easily last beyond 10 years. While a proper ski tune up is fantastic, you can easily learn to do it yourself and the tools aren't even expensive. You won't have the years of experience, but they will be good enough. I do ours myself, tune up the edges, repair any deep gouges in the base and hot wax them. Plus your house then smells like a ski shop for a while
Just for fun last hol I picked a pair of skis up I had always wanted, the early 1980s dynastar team course race skis, gold with the red heart vibration dampers and old look turntables. I loved skiing on them so much I used them the whole holiday and left my modern carving skis at the apartment, I suspect had I been a beginner I may not have enjoyed them so much but I struggle to see much real world advancement in skis beyond marketing.

Wall art is a good suggestion given how cool they look…
However I’d also be very intrigued to know the technological advancements in twin tip ski technology in the last 15 years that will allow me to do 4 backflips instead of a meagre 3???
(I struggle to ski backwards these days so sure these rather nice looking planks of wood should still be fine in getting me to the bottom of a hill covered in frozen water…)
