Need to get an e-type to Sheffield from Leeds, how?
Discussion
My brother is getting married in Sept and rented a e type from Leeds but the wedding is in Sheffield then the reception in Worksop.
I've got the terrible job of driving it from Leeds and back however I am loathed to take it down the M1 because it's not every day you get to drive one of these cars.
Has anyone got any suggestions on a route to take? I was thinking of going on the m1 to Wakefield then back roads but wondered if anyone knew any other routes?

I'd go over towards Huddersfield and go down the A629 to Penistone. Go round the town centre then down Mortimer road all the way to the A57 into Sheffield. Lovely roads but a lot of sharp hairpins / narrow bits.
Bare in mind however this is an old car and you don't want to be stressing it too much or havint it break down so that it doesn't make the wedding.

Hey guys,
I think I've decided to do a bit of steady motorway and then cross country.
Thoughts on the below route? Thinking being I'd come off at j38 and going off piece that way

Weirdly I was going to suggest that route, although there’s a good road with some nice bends you’ve missed out after Cawthorne. Basically after Naylor Drainage I’d fork right up Lane Head Road towards The Dunkirk pub. Then take the left towards Upper Denby and Ingbirchworth to join the A629. Call at Yummy Yorkshire for an ice cream while admiring the car!
Once you get to the A61 it’s all dual carriageway dullness but there’s not much you can do about that!
The better roads are further out west towards Hepworth and Scholes and then route south towards Bradfield. Then into Sheffield on the Loxley Road. But that’s a properly long route and I managed to overheat my TVR on some of those roads out that way!

Essentially the a629 from penistone down is ok but the a61 is a rubbish bit of road, low speed dual carriageways and traffic lights.
The reason for going down the a629 would have been Mortimer road towards Bradfield and the a57 back towards Sheffield.
There isn’t really a nice way into Hillsborough

Hey, i came off at Yorkshire wildlife park and went the alternative way Crumpet said.
Was a really nice drive, great experience too it was great getting lots of people looking, giving thumbs up too. It was quite funny seeing some people's faces when they saw a 30 year old driving something like that as people still think they are quite an expensive car.
Made me itch to get one but after driving an auto i'd definitely want the manual and as soon as you do that the prices rocket.
