Hey everyone

I've curbed one of my alloys on my Octavia VRS, anyone recommend any diamond Cut Alloy Repair places near Scarborough/York?

Cheers

I have a visit to Ian every few years thanks to me and my wife’s crap driving. He and his son Ben must have been fixing our wheels for over twenty years. Always been happy with the service.

Ben at Jemison has just powder-coated my Wheels & fitted new tyres to my MX5. Excellent as usual.

I saw this thread early on and was going to recommend Ian Jemison too - I really really rate their work (I've had cracked alloys repaired, and alloys powder coated there) but wasn't sure they did diamond cut alloys - if they do I'd definitely recommend.

There's a great coffee shop next door too!

(I'm based west of Leeds and I make the trip to York despite there being loads of places closer)

I’ve used them & would not recommend.

Complained about finish on a couple of wheels, gave him a chance to sort them out, still dissatisfied with results. Took a lot longer than promised as well.

Jorvik at Wigginton are very good too. They've done some wheels and a bike frame for me. They also used to do a lot of suspension refurb for SC of Malton before they went boom.

My visit was based off recommendations on here years ago.

Raw Wheels recommended not refurbing my Scirocco wheels by diamond cutting as the finish wouldn't be perfect so I went for powder coating which actually looks better and is perfect.

Make of that what you will. I saw a lot of wheels on my visits there and I was impressed by the quality of their work.

I have no first hand experience of Raw Wheels, but the advice given to me was to avoid them.

Sounds that way if they can't Diamond Cut with confidence but suggest powder coating instead...? I've seen some pretty bad wheels at the Wheel Specialist at Garfoth that you'd think were beyond repair but end up looking like new.

Just for a bit of balance, although I’ll always go to Ian Jemison, I’ve heard a few favourable comments about Raw Wheels and no negative ones.

Agree. If you can’t diamond cut, you’re going to struggle to make a living in wheel refurbishment these days!

I would also consider purely painting the wheels rather than powder coating. Maybe it’s the standard of the service I have had in the past, but I have never once been happy with the finish on a powder coated wheel.

I’ve had various sets of alloy wheels powder coated over the years by Jorvik Engineering at Wigginton and never had a problem (other than kerbing them again laugh)
