Evening All,
I'm on the look out for someone near Shipley, who could have a look at a car, prior to my going up? its is a Z4M.
I'm trying to arrange a AA inspection, but not sure how it works if I'm not there, but could do with a second set of eyes.

I'd look for one thats been done if you want to use the power.
- The S54 engine is typical of this unit, which is well known for being capable of easily carrying higher mileage

So I asked if it was trade, and the reply was it was taken in PX against a car that the husband was selling.
And she wanted rid ASAP, so rang the "Husband" and it is private, but he will accept a trade in and arrange delivery.....
Bit to fishy for me.
I think you're right looked at the advert looks a nice car same colour/leather/trim as our Z4C, but the private sale is bogus as the advert reads as a trader and too many people trying to trade cars as private sellers and that's not who you want to buy a car from. And she wanted rid ASAP, so rang the "Husband" and it is private, but he will accept a trade in and arrange delivery.....

I'm local to the area and I think I recognise the place the pictures are taken I often see these "private sales" being photographed there, if they are going to lie about the status of the sale what else are they going to lie about.
I'd look for another example.
As for the fear around the engine there are loads of S54s running around the country so don't believe the hype about it being fragile the vanos can be an issue but it's a car producing over 100hp per litre n/a so expect to have to look after it and spend money it's a 13 year old car after all...

Hi Wills,
Yeah, also seemed cagey on the phone.
I saw a great example 40 mins form work, legit bloke and outfit. Plus a 12 month warranty. Loads of SH. up for £15,900. Think I'll offer £15,00 as it is due a Inspection 1 in 1000k and had an Inspection 2 in Feb 19.
At 80k ish, is it worth getting the shell bearings swapped out as a precaution?
Yeah, also seemed cagey on the phone.

I would join bimmerpost and ask on the e46 M3/Z4M sections as there is a wealth of experience over there on the engine, I've had 6 M cars and the knowledge over there is second to none.

I only ran my e46 M3 for around 25k and that was back in 2003, but I have a friend who owns a used car place and he has sold many and the vanos is the thing I recall he mentioned with the S54. Yeah, also seemed cagey on the phone.

Second this, but also be aware that the S54 is mighty strong, just with a few weaknesses - The S54 engine is typical of this unit, which is well known for being capable of easily carrying higher mileage

Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable
I got an inspection done in Derby and I live in Halifax. Tbh I splashed out big time and was £700....but I got a portfolio of pics and a multi page report plus piece of mind. Potentially saved me £2k as that’s what the dealer spent rectifying stuff identified (tho arguably they may have fixed them as part of pre delivery inspection ....have my doubts) Point is I didnt have to be there
