Advice needed for replacement budget car.

Trying to help SIL.

Budget is around £4K and prefers Japanese... Current car is Toyota Corolla at 155k, 98 year, 5 seats, auto, 1.6 and going to the scrap yard in the sky... Had the car from new in 98!...

Recommendations much appreciated.. Reliability and running costs being important.
