Hi all, the wife and I are enjoying a short break in Harrogate. We arrived late on Friday evening and then spent today wandering round. We had a fantastic lunch in The Drum and Monkey and we might just be able to fit in a tea at Betty’s tearoom this evening!
Tommorrow we have to drive back home south (late in the day) but what else should we go and see while we’re here? Any great drives to a nice pub for a Sunday lunch? Don’t really want to wander round any more shops or museums, be great to see some lovely countryside the short time we’re here. Any suggestions welcome!

Mother Shipton's cave (nice short walk along the riverbank) and Knaresborough castle (Free) four miles away.

Betty's tearoom is nice but quite expensive.

Head due east into York. Out of season on a Sunday the cobbled streets of the old city are lovely.
To the west is Bradford.
Like I said, head into York.

Belay Betty's today and go tomorrow to the other Harrogate Betty's at Harlow Carr. Walk round the gardens, then lunch.

The Kings club
It was formally Wildcats. Can't say I've ever had a bad night in there.

The Square and compass is excellent for food and only a short drive out of the centre.

Thanks all for the suggestions.
We overslept due to someone having a punch up outside our hotel window for what seemed like most of the night. We went to Harlow Carr and then had a fantastic lunch at Betty’s. Ran out of time to go to York but we’ll come back in the spring.

Book the Turkish Baths (often needs to be done in advance).

Bolton Abbey + Ilkley (another Bettys...)
Fountains Abbey
