What to do in Hull for a few hours?
Discussion
Hi all
I regularly drop my step son back at Hull Uni from our house in Wiltshire. If I leave early morn/late evening I can do it around 3 hours. If I do it during the day it can take up to 6 hours each way! Last time I left at 9am on Saturday and got there @ 3pm - Never a bloody again /
Issue I have is after ive dropped him off, unloaded his stuff , he wont want me hanging around and I dont fancy a 5 hour traffic jam home until the roads clear at night!
Any ideas on what there is to do? I've thought about cinema, but Ill just dose off after a long drive. Cant go down the pub and I dont really do shopping.
Any decent places to visit? Im happy for a bit of culture such as a gallery, museum etc . i dont mind a decent walk either. Im a keen cyclist so tempted to bring a bike
Im happy to drive for a bit and obviously im heading South home
Cheers all,
Yours sincerely billy no mates who needs his hand held

I'd like to say there was some decent car museum, track, or other motoring facility - but there isn't! apart from maybe Karting....

You can turn up and not even need to book on a Saturday, pay as you go. See site or call and speak with staff for opening times.
Apart from the above, your looking at a nice lunch on the Marina.

What's causing the massive delay? I live near hull and unless the a63 blocks up I can't imagine what's causing that issue.
I'd be inclined to use the time to head down the 1079 then across to Wallington, north cave then the M62 and home. There are some nice bits around hull but tbh your just killing time there's nothing there that isn't available elsewhere much nicer.

Cheers for the replies ,particularly the long one , that's really helpful , some great ideas. He's anounced he wants to do a PHD so I guess we have got a few years of visiting there!
As for the traffic, the closer to Hull the easier it gets , in fact on the DCs leading to the city are always empty and nice roads. The main delays we have had have been M5 ,M6 and A419 , simply the first two hours of the drive have taken 4 hours instead of two . Past Nottingham it's quiet . Leaving at 6am means I skip the queues

Put him in a train instead.
But if you hang around for 3 hours then drive home you've still wasted 6 hours anyway so I'd just get in the car and drive.
Cheers, we do normally send him on the train or bus, but he has a large TV and some furniture he wants to take as hes moving in a new house from halls last year, hence having to drive, next time he can catch the bus. TBF he never asks for much and isnt your normal student, as he loves studying and not going out (If you met him you would believe this!) so I dont mind helping him out. Hes really helpful at home with our younger kids, who adore him,
I've done straight up and back before, its fine if no traffic, but hit a jam/accident on the M5 and its just grim hence wanting to break up the day and see new things
Cheers again all
