Hi,

Can anyone recommend somewhere in West Yorkshire to remove and rebuild a diff with new gaskets?

The diff on my Monaro is leaking from the back cover and from the shafts.

Thanks

Do you need it rebuilding or just new gaskets and seals fitting? Generally if it's just side/output seals it needs it won't need rebuilding and is a quick easy job you could do yourself, ditto the rear gasket. If it needs pinion seal replacing that will need the diff stripping to do.

Maybe I could get away with doing it on car then.

Looking at the diff it may just be cover and outputs.

Just seems odd how there's so much oil in front of and around the diff...

Doesn't look like the front seal is leaking at the moment to be honest. It's just oil creep I suspect.

Side seals are definitely leaking a bit, but most of the leak looks to have come from the fill plug area, has it been recently serviced? I think if it was mine I'd pull the fill plug make sure it wasn't massively over filled and let any excess run out if it was. Then refit the plug making sure there is a washer on the plug and brake cleaner the hell out of the diff to get all wet oil off it. Give it a week or 2 and see how wet it is again. If it's not too bad I would be tempted to leave it, if it's like it is now then do it. I have seen a lot wetter diffs and depending how long it's been getting to the current stage the leak could be very very minor and made to look much worse by sloppy filling.
