Just saw a brief report on Look North - some details here:

Some interesting comments.
It might end up like the Beverley - Market Weighton stretch on the A1079, though I`m unsure if these are always active.

This saddens me greatly. After travelling pretty much anywhere else in the country, I'm always relieved to come to home camera-free North Yorkshire.

When is it time for the next election for commissioner ? Mulligan out !

95 Alive has become a cash generating machine - reinvesting in more of the same. It even pays for a car for the PCSO's (bobbies on the cheap) - how is that part of road safety. And the police will tell you all the cash from speed awareness courses stays with the course providers. Take a look at the accounts - filed in error !! with Companies House. Of £25M turnover and lots of details of smaller costs there is a huge random ''Charges - £15M'' - or put another way £50 per course !

When do we get proper investment in our roads ? The long talked about dualling. A lick of fresh line paint wouldn't go amiss.

The article refers to a number of people caught over the ton in one night. Not on their way back from a Marine Drive gathering by any chance ? The same idiots who tore up (an alleged) £50k of new tarmac. That stretch of tarmac wasnt even bad in the first place. But of course it had to be done to keep Tour De Yorkshire happy (and the total cost was way over that figure). How much could be repaired elsewhere in the County ? And where were the police when the tarmac was being torn up - given all the issues in 2017 down there ?

As a regular user of the A64 I am also saddened by this.

The road was never designed for anywhere near the volume of traffic currently using it and they haven’t updated it to remove the accident black spots they keep going on about.

Perhaps they should tackle the crossover junctions on the dual carriageways that shouldn’t be allowed to exist.

Strangely I can’t remember the last accident from someone pootling along the dual carriageway sections at 90mph... They all happen at the hidden/dangerous junctions.

Average speed cameras would catch those doing 100+ no doubt, but won't do anything about the accidents at the junction I use to get on and off the A64 just east of York.

The problem with average speed cameras is that people don't know what the speed limit is. So you'll get people pinned to 50 mph, instead of 60, because they think that's the limit. Likewise 60 instead of 70 on the dual carriageway parts.

The A64 is the main route to the Yorkshire east coast and needs to be treated as such rather than a coastal holiday route. In go for spending money on this over improving the York ring road to be honest. Everyone around here knows that the ring road is terrible so avoid it unless they have to drive on it.

For anyone that uses the a64 regular will know that this is a waste of money because you tend not to speed anyway as you know there's always camera vans on there I put the cruise on at 70 and just relax tbh

I think they're in preparation for roadworks, certainly not permanent for now.

This might be of interest the historical data on where and when for the mobile speed cameras. Interesting to see the numbers of road users caught and how they were dealt with.

Got them for 6 months at least with a 40mph limit to allow the central reservation to be replaced

I was on the A64 last weekend. There were signs on them saying ‘camera not in use’. Not sure when they go live though, I’m not at that neck of the woods often enough.

Went on there twice today, a long stretch of 40mph with average camera.

The sign said 'for the safety of the workforce', well at about 12.30pm and 4.30pm there was not one work person there!
