This junction recently reopened after being worked on for the best part of forever - In my opinion it's a bit of a mess with a lot of roundabouts that don't really seem necessary, but I do see why it was done

However - Is it just me or do the lines painted on it not really give a good indication of a direction of travel (especially when heading towards Hoyland from the M1) and I'm sure I can't be the only one that thinks that when it's wet and dark, the lines are almost impossible to make out?

Or is it just me? smile

This junction is now a complete and utter farce. The designer needs taking outside and dropping off the motorway bridge.
We visit Wentworth a lot so after this finally opened thought it might be nice and simple to get there. Oh no. Yes, leaving the motorway from the north and stay in the right hand lane. Ease over to the right when there are 3 lanes as marked. Go round the first roundabout and head straight on. Now there are 5 lanes. You need to be in the centre one but no one knows where they need to be so its like dodgems. You carry on round and now you are correctly sitting at the red light in the left hand lane. A dork will now come alongside in the middle of the 3 lanes and then a super numpty - twice now in a white Astravan - will line up for the grand prick in the right hand lane.
The lights change and all 3 cars go on to the roundabout. Except that the exit for Hoyland is one lane only and where there is lots of room to merge, the bozo who designed this, thought it would be a fecking brilliant idea to put cross hatch lines. But the dork and the super numpty don't give a toss and barge their way past. And the footpath at this point is 3 miles wide and 2 people a month walk here. A well thought out design obviously as there is acres of room for a decent merge in to allow traffic flow.
Wont be long before road rage and collisions spoil the fun.

Yet, when coming back, the route is so easy and well thought out. God alone knows what went on here censoredpuncharguegrumpy

The hatching is stupidly big - I used it yesterday when there was a Fiesta to my right who, it turns out, wanted to be in the Hoyland lane, but the Hatching is big enough for a very large lane - During the works, I think you could use it, but people still do.

I generally don't get the point of the left turn at the Hoyland roundabout as it takes you back on to the dual carriageway - and if you carry on to the Birdwell exit, you can turn right there and get on to the dual carriageway anyway...

I agree. The most annoying thing for me is the number of traffic lights I have to sit at red and wait for just to get from the motorway onto the bypass to get to Corton Wood. And then again to do the return journey, often in the dead of night when there are no other road users around and I'm just waiting at red for no frickin reason!!!

Roundabouts don't need 24/7 traffic lights - stupid stupid stupid!!!!!

You're doing it wrong or explaining it wrong!

From the north you exit and use the left hand lane which becomes the middle but stay by the white line on your right as you enter the roundabout, the right hand lane is only to go down the A61 towards sheffield. You then skirt round all the traffic that's trying to go into Birdwell or down the Dearne Valley Parkway putting you in the outside lane at the first set of lights. Now you go on green you can go straight down the parkway in the first lane or as you like, take the second lane to Hoyland.

The lanes etc work brilliantly when people follow them, the problem comes when people don't read the signs on approach and dont understand the white lines on the road.

I cross this area twice a day heading into Chapeltown, its much better at peak times but then at this time most people are now used to the layout.
