Got a wide car these days and would like spacious parking for shopping. Usually go in the light but can't remember if it's very roomy or not.
Ideas?

Cheers

The one on Templar street doesn't have marked bays, so you can park very defensively should you so wish. All under CCTV too.

I think it's 8 quid for 4 hours

On a Sunday you can park on the meters by the old BT? building near the train station at £1 for 4 hours, £1 an hour on a Saturday. Similar to others at other times. I think the road is Park Place.

The John Lewis car park (Victoria Gate?) is easier to drive around as it has one central spiral going up and down, so as long as you watch out for cars coming the other way you can take a really wide ark. Ideal for the dreadful tuning circle on a P2 Volvo with large tyres. I wouldn't even enter the Trinity car park in the Volvo. Not sure if the parking spaces are particularly wide though.

1 hour is £3,
2 hours is £5
3 hours is £7
4 hours is £9

I don't recall the prices after that. You can find them online though.

Train station car park, go right to the end where the spaces are more generous and the standard of car is higher. Basically it's the 'car guys' at work who park there so everyone is careful. Not sure of the costs though as it's free for staff

Q-park Albion st (not the NCP!), has good size bays, is next to the Trinity for shopping, but the car park isn't well known so usually has spaces. Also the train station as mentioned above, but it can fill up at busy times.

There are quite a number of spaces in this one that are tucked around in corners, behind pillars etc, where you get an extra 2 feet of door opening room - you just have to look at them, and sometimes let your passenger out before parking. There's some good ones hidden behind the entrance ramp too.

I usually use the Q Park on Swinegate which has similar qualities.

Woodhouse Lane, although outside city centre a bit, there are some spaces on the roof which are huge (floor 17) - and some end ones on 9,11,13 and 15 that you can park right on the edge of the bay against hatched areas.

The Citipark near the arena is suitably wide. The Trinity multi storey however isn't as I discovered recently banghead

You can park at the University (ok, a bit of a walk) for £1/hour at the weekends. Plenty of outdoor space without using their multi story.

Although it's near the centre and the spaces are nice and wide; I wouldn't really recommend Meadow Lane car park. Had my car scraped once and more substantially damaged recently. No note left on either occasion and the cameras were nigh-on useless when I asked WYP to look into the latter incident. Left me over £500 lighter. frown

I'm sure they have 2 hours free for shoppers and ANPR to issue fines over 2 hours, shopping or not.
